St. Albans Attractions

The Lodge is superbly located with off street parking. It is a short stroll from the station, numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes and all major attractions that this vibrant city offers. Our city is famous for its Roman and mediaeval heritage, street markets, museums and the magnificent cathedral of St Alban.

St Albans Cathedral is built on what is believed to be the site of the martyrdom of St Alban. The hill upon which it stands overlooks the valley of the river Ver, beyond which lie the buried ruins of the Roman city of Verulamium.

Verulamium Park is set close to the Abbey. Enjoy a walk around the lake, see if you can spot the herons on the island or stop off at the historic Fighting Cocks pub for a drink or bite to eat. Then continue on to the museum.

Verulamium Museum in St Albans has fascinating exhibits illustrating the area's rich Roman history and a glimpse of everyday life in Roman Britain. Verulamium museum is invaded every second weekend in the month by Roman soldiers who demonstrate the tactics and equipment of the Roman Imperial Army.

Hatfield House is a fine Jacobean house built in 1611 for the 1st Earl of Salisbury. There are superb examples of Jacobean craftsmanship throughout the house. The gardens were laid out in the early 17th century and visitors can view the famous 'knot garden' where Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood. The 1,000 acre park includes woodland trails and in spring a wonderful bluebell display.
