St. Albans Attractions

Whipsnade Zoo - Whipsnade has been one of the countries most well known and well visited Zoos since 1931. It is the home to over 2,500 wild animals including lions, tigers, rhinos and giraffes. Visitors can explore its 600 acres and see its inhabitants on foot, by car, by bus and even by train on the Zoo's steam light railway.

Woburn Safari Park and Abbey - Experience a Safari drive through Woburn Safari Park and get close to the lions and tigers or explore the history of the Abbey which is set in a beautiful 300 acre deer park.

Shuttleworth - provides a number of attractions, these include the famous Shuttleworth collection of airplanes, which spans the first hundred years of flight, a Bird of Prey Centre and last but definitely not least the beautiful 19th Century designed Swiss Garden.

St Albans - Dating back to Roman times the town of St Albans is steeped in history. It is Hertfordshire's oldest town and its history is still very much apparent. The Abbey Church dominates its skyline and its Roman history can be seen in the Verulamium Museum, which features mosaics and recreated rooms.

Shaw's Corner - Built in 1902, home to George Bernard Shaw for more than 40 years and now owned by the National Trust. The house itself pays homage to its former owner and is just as George Bernard Shaw left it. His belongings are still in place, from his typewriter to his Oscar for Pygmalion and it really does feel as if he has just left the room. The house is set in beautiful gardens and plays host to open air performances of Shaws' plays during the summer.

Hatfield House - A Jacobean house built in 1611 on the site of the former Royal Palace of Hatfield. The house and gardens are open to the public, and visitors can view the state rooms and see the collections of paintings and furnishings on display. Throughout the year the house and grounds play host to events such as Antiques fairs, concerts and craft events.
