Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Southmead is a beautifully refurbished luxury Edwardian guest house which opened in the Summer of 2008 for Bed and Breakfast. We are situated in the historic spa town of Buxton and are surrounded by the magnificent Peak District National Park. Our B&B is ideally located within walking distance of the town centre and its many excellent restaurants, and also with easy access to the Goyt valley and beyond.

Our Edwardian House was constructed in local stone around 1905. It was a substantial family home until converted to its current use by George and Ruth in 2007. At Southmead we offer a variety of en-suite bedrooms including twin, king-size and double. You will always be assured of a good breakfast in our guest dining room with a choice of cereals, fruit juices and cooked breakfasts. We normally offer a two course evening meal with a choice of meat or vegetarian main dish. For those who require it we offer a packed lunch. On a warm, sunny evening you may wish to enjoy the garden at Southmead and perhaps even try a game of garden croquet. Alternatively, you may wish to take advantage of our spacious guest lounge with its ample supply of books, maps, local information and games.

 

Buxton Attractions

 
Buxton has a wealth of interest in addition to being a lovely country town. There is an excellent shopping centre but many buildings of significant architectural and historical interest. For example, there's the Opera House, the Pavillion Gardens, the Octagon, The Pump Room and the Crescent. The Pavillion Gardens and the river provide a beautiful setting for a gentle stroll.

For those of you who are interested in historic houses, Chatsworth House, home of the Dukes of Devonshire and Haddon Hall, home of the Dukes of Rutland are both within easy reach and only a little further afield is Hardwick Hall. You may recognise these from their featuring in many recent films and TV productions.
 

B&B Location
 
From Buxton town centre follow the A53 signposted to Leek. This is St. John's road which takes you past St. John's church on your right and the Pavllion Gardens on your left.

Follow this road for approximately half a mile then, as it bends to the left, you will see Bishops Lane on your right by the postbox.

After turning into Bishops Lane, Southmead is the second house on the right. We are approximately three quarters of a mile from the railway station. A pick-up service is available if arriving by train or bus.
