Beech Cottage ~ Large bed and breakfast room with bathroom. It has twin beds plus an additional room which could sleep 1 small child. There is ample space for a sofa bed in the main bedroom if required. Grove Chalet has its own balcony with magnificent views of the grounds, surrounding countryside and valleys.

As well as nature and woodland walks within the grounds Parsons Grove is ideally located for exploring Wentwood Forest, the Forest of Dean, the Wye Valley, including Tintern Abbey and Symonds Yat, the historic towns of Chepstow and Monmouth, and the beautiful vale of Usk. Local activities include walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing, golf (St. Pierre and Celtic Manor approx 15/20 mins), Chepstow race course (approx 15 mins), Canoeing (Symonds Yat) and the castles at Chepstow and Raglan. Crick Attractions

This area of the Wye and Usk Valleys has been the battleground of tribes and nations over the centuries. The Romans made their conquest of the Seluri from their base at Caerleon; you can visit the remains of their amphitheatre and explore the excavated barracks and baths. The Normans built many castles, one of the most spectacular being at Chepstow, at the mouth of the Wye, so if it’s history you want there is plenty to keep you interested.

The area was also very much part of the Industrial Revolution, with iron and steel works in the Royal Forest of Dean and further west into the Welsh Valleys. Blaenavon, now a World Heritage Site, will give you a good idea of early industrialisation, and you can explore further by going down an actual disused coal mine at Big Pit, guided by an ex-miner.

If outdoor pursuits are what you want, you can walk - Offa’s Dyke, Wye Valley Walk, Usk Valley Walk, Gloucester Way, Brecon Beacons, etc. for the serious walker or a gentle stroll around our fifteen acres or across our brook to Wentwood Forest – or cycle the many cycle routes, one of which passes half a mile from our driveway. You can also canoe on the Wye, sail, hanglide, glide, balloon, fish, play golf, ride horses or quadbikes within easy reach.

The thing we don’t do is sandy beaches - you have your own heated pool – but if you must spend a day at the seaside there are some superb beaches the other side of Cardiff, about ninety minutes drive away.

If all this seems a bit exhausting, and you are in need of some retail therapy, then Cardiff, Wales’ exciting capital city, is forty-five minutes away and offers a wide range of shops as well as Techniquest, fascinating museums, including the Museum of Welsh Life, the Millenium Stadium and the magnificent Cardiff Castle. Cribbs Causeway Shopping Centre, in the other direction just over the Old Severn Bridge, is the biggest shopping centre in the area.

B&B Location

Directions ~ Parsons Grove is approx 15-20 mins from the M48 meaning that Bristol and Cardiff are within easy reach providing quality shops and entertainment venues.

From the East and South ~ From the M4/M5 leave the M4 at J21 on to the M48, and crossing the old Severn Bridge leaving at Junction 2.
Follow signs to Chepstow (A466) to the first roundabout at the junction with the A48. Turn left at this junction, sign-posted Caerwent and Caldicot, and stay on the A48 (2nd exit at small roundabout you come to) for about 2 miles until you reach Crick.
At Crick take the right turn to Shirenewton (3 miles), go straight through the village, and one mile outside the village take the first left turn, at a small grass triangle. You should see a sign to Parsons Grove at this turn, keep following the signs downhill for another mile until you reach us.

From the North ~ From the M5 at Junction 8, take the M50 which becomes the A40 at Ross. When the A40 diverts, continue on the A449 signposted Newport.
Take the turning for Usk ( A472) which will take you back over the road you have just come off, and immediately the B4235 signposted Chepstow.
Follow this road generally uphill for six to seven miles until you reach a five ways junction and take the first right to Shirenewton (NOT Earlswood). Again take the first right turn, and after about 150 yards go straight across at a left offset crossroads, follow this lane downhill, across another small crossroads until you see the entrance to Parsons Grove.
From the West

Come off the M4 at Junction 24 and take the A48 sign-posted Penhow, follow this road until you reach Crick, and just past a 4x4 garage take the left turn to Shirenewton.
Then follow the instructions in the second paragraph of the Directions from the East and South.
