Bed and Breakfast Description

 

The original building was built in 1837, the year when Queen Victoria came to the throne. The property ceased to operate as a bakery in 1954 when the last baker's wife died. The old bakehouse and front shop remained virtually untouched for forty years and during that time ran into dereliction. In 1994 the property was restored and many of the original bakery features remain. Where the ovens were originally located has been converted into a private dining area full of character and nostalgic charm. A climate controlled garden room was created in December 2007 which increased the restaurant capacity by a further 40 covers and presents a unique environment for your dining experience. For the comfort of our customers and to fulfill our obligations as a Gold Award clean air establishment, the entire premises and grounds are non-smoking.

The Old Bakery rooms which belong to the sister company of The Old Bakery Restaurant have been awarded 4 star AA and 4 star Silver Award Quality in Tourism assessment ratings. The Old Bakery was listed in the September 2007 edition of The Sunday Times Travel Magazine as one of the Top 100 Finest Places to stay in England. We also featured during May 2008 in The Guardian as one of only two finest establishments in the Food category to stay in Lincolnshire. All rooms have a digital colour TV with Freeview and Teletext, BT Broadband Wireless Internet Access, radio/alarm, central heating, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers and are comfortable and well appointed. Ensuite facilities are available with freshly laundered towels provided daily for all guests. Ironing facilities are also available on request.

 

Lincoln Attractions

 
The multi-award winning 4 star Silver and 2 AA Rosette Old Bakery Restaurant with Rooms is ideally located in the Uphill area of Lincoln, close to Lincoln Cathedral, Castle and many other points of historic interest in the Cathedral Quarter with it's popular mix of original shops, cafes and public houses which are to be found on the Bailgate and Steep Hill. The surroundings at The Old Bakery are rustic, relaxed and informal.

On the A46 (Relief Road) follow directions for Lincoln North and follow the brown tourist signs for the Historic Centre, Cathedral and Lawns Visitor Centre by taking the 3rd exit at the roundabout for the A15 junction if approaching from the West.

At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit, then at the next roundabout take the 1st exit which will bring you to Burton Road. (NB There is a Shell petrol station on the left as you turn on to Burton Road).

The Old Bakery is located towards the end of the road (close to Lincoln castle walls) on the right side of the road, half way between the Museum of Lincolnshire Life and the Lawns Visitor Centre.
