Bed and Breakfast Description

The Nelson & Railway derives its name from the original full title "The Lord Nelson, Railway Hotel" which dates to a time when the pub was between the stations of two competing railway companies. Both station buildings, may still be seen and the area is of great interest to enthusiasts of both rail and Victorian history. We are described in the Good Pub Guide as a "cheerily run two-roomed Victorian pub...a real hub of village life. There's an attractive mix of Edwardian-looking furniture in the beamed bar and lounge, with interesting brewery prints and railway signs on the walls. Darts, alley and table skittles, dominoes, chess, cribbage, Scrabble, fruit machine and juke box. There are tables in a good-sized cottagey garden."

We have ten fully refurbished rooms available. All our rooms are en-suite with television and freeview. Wireless internet access is available. We offer access and facilities for disabled visitors. Our location has ample parking and is just 1 mile from the J26 of the M1, it has proved an ideal base for visitors wishing to explore the beautiful and varied countryside surrounding us, steeped in history and local legend. Our friendly staff will be happy to advise visitors in any way we can and look forward to ensuring a happy and comfortable stay with us.

At the front of the pub are two garden areas described by the Good Pub Guide as "cottagey" (which, being our aim, is a compliment!) and divided by a path to our front door. This path extends beyond the lane in front of us to a steep flight of steps which lead down to the Nottingham Road, once the site of Europe's longest tramway from Nottingham to Alfreton. (26 miles). To the rear of the pub there is a nice lawned, seated, beer garden with an ample car park.

Nottingham Attractions

A fascinating tramway musuem is at nearby Crich which often features in period dramas. Kimberley had a rich railway history and within a few minutes walk are the two old railway station buildings and many interesting walks along the disused railway lines.

We are only 6 miles from Nottingham, 15 from Derby and close to the beautiful and rugged Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. Our neighbouring town to the west is Eastwood, birthplace of D.H.Lawrence and we are close to Newstead Abbey, once home to Lord Byron. Kimberley itself has many fascinating historical facts to discover - not least the history of our brewery!

DIRECTIONS FROM THE MOTORWAY (M1)
The pub is situated in Kimberley about 1 mile from Junction 26 on the M1 motorway. Leave the motorway at J26 and take the A610 signposted for Heanor, Eastwood and The American Adventure (a local amusement park worth a visit).

After about 1 mile take the first exit and turn right at the roundabout - follow the sign for Ikea (a local store). After 400 yards there is another roundabout. Turn right.
Keep on this road for about 3/4 mile. You will pass a park on your left and a caravan centre on your right.

Take the next left turn. The road is Hardy Street and there is a large brewery building on the corner. After 50 yards there is a no-entry one-way street to the right which is in front of the pub. Keep going up Hardy Street.

The entrance to the pub car park is a further 100 yards on your right, between two brewery buildings and just before where Hardy Street veers to the left.

In the car park is a gate which takes you to the rear entrance of the pub. As you enter the passageway there is a door to your right which leads to the Tap Room Bar and a door straight ahead which leads to the Saloon Bar and Dining Areas. Our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.

DIRECTIONS FROM NOTTINGHAM
Head out of the City towards J26 on the M1 and at the Nuthall roundabout follow the sign for Kimberley. Keep going straight on until you come to Kimberley Town Centre then follow the map on the left. To get to our carpark go up Hardy Street and look for the carpark entrance 100 yds to the right between two brewery buildings.

Nearest Railway Station: Bulwell  (2.6  Miles)
