Bed and Breakfast Description

Inchgrove House is a 5 storey Georgian Town House which has recently been lovingly restored into a luxurious Bed and Breakfast accommodation, with fine and elegant en-suite rooms. It is located in the heart of Edinburgh, just 250 yards from Princes Street, the architectural, historic and cultural hub of the city. The double rooms at Inchgrove House all have 6 foot double beds, and the twin rooms (2 single beds) have 3 foot wide beds. The house has full central heating. All the bathrooms have both a bath and a shower, and a shaver point. All rooms have colour TV, hospitality tray, hair-dryers (correct mains voltage, 230v AC). Wireless internet access is available free of charge throughout the house.

Inchgrove House offers you the opportunity to enjoy a real Georgian House, great friendliness and service all in a location yards away from the most famous and spectacular view in Scotland - Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town on the Castle Rock, seen from Princes Street.

Breakfast is served around one big convivial table where everybody joins in the exchange of conversation and information - unless you want to hide behind the complimentary newspaper. The choice starts with fresh fruit salad, fruit juice, cereals and yogurt followed by the big Scottish breakfast - any combination of bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding and haggis - yes, haggis, or smoked kippers, smoked haddock or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. We get our sausages from the famous Edinburgh maker Crombies, our eggs are free range and are delivered to us direct from Coldstream in the Scottish Borders, and we grind our own coffee every morning.

Edinburgh Attractions

Edinburgh is dominated by its large and famous castle. The city has been sacked and burned several times in its history, as warring powers strove to seize this fortress. Until the 1760s the whole city comprised what is now known as the Old Town, the area that runs down the tail of the castle hill to the royal palace of Holyroodhouse. Up till then the city had just two principal streets - the Royal Mile and the Canongate - linked by a warren of side streets, yards, vennels and "closes". The old city or "toun" was surrounded on three sides by the medieval Flodden Wall, which was gated and closed each night for security, and on the fourth by the Nor' [North] Loch, occupying the area where Waverley railway station and Princes Street Gardens are now.
