Situated only a few minutes from the bustle of nearby towns, Homestead House enjoys quiet, peaceful views over unspoilt farmland in the beautiful Welland Valley. In the colder months, you can relax in the lounge on the comfy leather suite in front of a log fire and digital LCD TV and DVD player.

You are free to come and go whenever you please and there are no restrictions on access to your room, except for daily cleaning. There is ample, private, off-road parking for all guests in the guests' car park beside the house and bicycles and other equipment can be securely stored in the garage.

 

Market Harborough Attractions

 
Medbourne is a picturesque village dating back to Roman times, though it was probably given its current name in Saxon times as the Anglo-Saxon word 'Meadbourne' meant 'Meadow Stream'. Nearby Market Harborough offers many High Street shops and other retail facilities including a bank (with a cash machine) and Petrol stations. There is also a dispensing chemist, doctor, dentist and Tourist Information Centre.

We do not offer evening meals, but we are pleased to recommend you try Medbourne's friendly village pub, which is a 3 minute, leisurely stroll from Homestead House. The ever popular Nevill Arms is CAMRA listed and offers a good range of real ales and bar meals which can be eaten either in the bar, or outside at the wooden tables beside the village brook. The Horse and Trumpet was once the village's second pub, but is now a smart restaurant offering modern British cuisine created by Head Chef David Lennox and his team. With 2 AA Rosettes, the Horse and Trumpet was a finalist in "Best new Restaurant of the Year 2004" Hotel & Restaurant Magazine and was also listed in the Good Food Guide 2005 as 'Highest rated restaurant in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire'.

Hallaton Bottle-Kicking is a unique kind of pagan Rugby match that takes place every Easter Monday between the neighbouring villages of Medbourne and Hallaton. Theories abound, but nobody really knows the exact origins of this annual battle, but the young (and not so young) lads of both villages compete in three rounds, attempting to carry a small oak cask full of ale across open fields to a goal, in a battle with very few, if any rules. Of course, it is the job of the opposite side to prevent them doing so and to try to carry the barrel into their goal. The goals are opposing muddy brooks, the fight is furious and the score is always much discussed by locals for weeks afterwards. Bottle-kicking is a rare glimpse of real English rural life. Don't miss it - and be sure to take your camera!
