At Charlie Brown's you will find the very warmest of welcomes from Jane and Jonathan. Most of Colchester's longer established residents will remember Charlie Brown's as the Hardware shop that ‘had everything'. The shop was owned by the Brown family for almost 125 years before finally closing for the last time about 14 years ago.The building, which dates from the 15th century, is part of the history and heritage of England's oldest recorded town and, after a major restoration programme has been restored to its former glory and converted into luxury living accommodation.
Each guest room is framed by original exposed beams and has been carefully designed and furnished to reflect an individual character using a mixture of antique and contemporary furnishings and art. High quality bedlinen and towels are provided.
The Four-poster Room, as the name suggests - boasts a lavish four-poster bed, creating the ideal mood for a romantic weekend or a luxurious overnight stay. It is light and spacious with a convenient en-suite bathroom. ( This room can also be used as a family room with the addition of up to 2 extra beds ) The usual tea/coffee facilities are on offer plus a well stocked mini- fridge, TV / DVD/ WiFi connection.
The Green Room, has a more intimate feel with a comfortable double and single bed and an adjacent private limestone bathroom with walk-in shower. This offers very flexible accommodation i.e. single / double / triple or family occupancy with tea/coffee facilities, TV / DVD and free wireless internet connection.
We now offer a third room, The Mulberry Room. This en-suite room, has all the facilities, comfort and size of The Four Poster Room with an unusual kingsize bed, antique and contemporary furniture.
