Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Welcome to 17 Roman Road Bed & Breakfast, where we offer guests our large tranquil double bedroom with king-sized bed, ensuite with shower. There is a sunny bay window with a comfortable seating area. Coffee and tea making facilities with home-made biscuits a flatscreen television and hair dryer are all included within the room. There is an excellent choice of breakfasts taken in the sunny dining room with locally sourced produce to suit all tastes and diets, including home-made preserves.

 

Colchester Attractions

 
We are just a few minutes walk to the Mercury Theatre, museums, firstsite, good shops and an excellent variety of restaurants. Train stations, buses and the leisure centre with swimming pool, are also within a short walking distance.

Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town with much to experience and enjoy. There is the Norman Castle and Museum, whose foundations were once a Roman Temple which was burned to the ground when Queen Boudica ransacked the town in 60AD. The recently discovered unique Roman Circus and chariot racing track and much evidence all around of Colchester's Roman past. Visit the medieval ruins of St. Botolph's Priory, various Elizabethan buildings, the Dutch quarter, once home to refugee Flemmish weavers, the Victorian Park and more besides. Nearby are Beth Chatto's famous gardens, with Constable country and the coastline to explore a short drive away....

Harwich is approximately 30 minutes and Stansted Airport 50 minutes by road. Essex University is 3 miles away. London is 50 minutes by train.

From Colchester town centre follow the High Street, past the Castle on the left. Bear left at the traffic lights and enter East Hill with the Visitor Information Centre on the right. Roman Road is the first road on the left opposite St. James church. Continue down Roman Road, past the left turning to Castle Road. Number 17 is the 4th house on the right.

From Ipswich and Harwich: Follow signs to Colchester town centre. Join East Street. At mini-roundabout continue forward onto East Hill. Turn right into Roman Road opposite St. James church.
Continue down Roman Road, past the left turning to Castle Road. Number 17 is the 4th house on the right.
