Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Hall Court Farm Bed and Breakfast is situated in an exceptionally peaceful area between the villages of Firle and Ripe. All the rooms have outstanding views across open farmland to the Downs. Perfect location for Glyndebourne, Charleston, Lewes and The South Downs. The Approach to the house is a hard surface winding drive with views to Firle Beacon and Mount Caburn. There is ample gravel driveway on three sides of the house for parking. Guests are welcome to spend time in the extensive garden with its outstanding views, and extraordinary peace and quiet.
Hall Court Farmhouse has a wide and welcoming hallway. Off this are two large Reception rooms, both of which may be used solely by the guests, one being the Dining Room for Breakfast and one a Drawing Room with television if required and where tea and coffee may be taken on arrival or on return from a meal out or from the Opera. The house has central heating and fitted carpets throughout. From the Hallway leads a wide staircase up to a square, bright and spacious landing. The three guest bedrooms (two twin-bedded and one double-bedded) are all spacious, light and airy. The bedrooms have chests of drawers, dressing table, wardrobe or fitted cupboard, easy chairs, good sized tables for trays of china and glassware for guests to make their own drinks. There are always fresh flowers in the bedrooms. All the rooms have quite outstanding uninterrupted views over farmland to the South Downs. In January 2007 two new bathrooms were constructed enabling each of the three guest rooms to be either en-suite or have its own private bathroom. This refurbishment has been done to a very high standard in keeping with the Georgian house. |

Lewes Attractions |
| |
This area of the South Downs is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and The South Downs Way (a famous National trail) leads along the top of the Downs due south of Hall Court Farm linking Lewes and Alfriston (and beyond). Alfriston Village on the River Cuckmere is full of history and is a delightful place to visit with its magnificent Church , known as the Cathedral of the Downs, and The Clergy House (National Trust property and open to the public). The Cuckmere then winds its way down to the sea at the Seven Sisters Country Park which is an excellent area for walks, either to the beach or Friston Forest or the Downs.
Hall Court is ideally situated for Glyndebourne visitors. Guests can leave the Opera car park and be at the Farm in twelve minutes. Guests can prepare their picnic in the Farmhouse and are welcome to keep items overnight in the fridge and freezer. Hall Court is probably the closest Bed and Breakfast to Charleston Farmhouse, the home of the Bloomsbury writers and artists. Duncan Grant worked for the Hecks Family on their farm during the Second World War. Charleston is open from April to October (not Mondays and Tuesdays). Firle Place, the ancestral home of the Gage Family for over 500 years is only a few minutes' drive away.
The County Town of Lewes on the River Ouse is 15 minutes drive away. Lewes is full of character with its Castle, Anne of Cleves House, museums, galleries and antique shops. Lewes has numerous bars and restaurants for eating out. There are good restaurants and pubs in all the local villages - The Hungry Monk at Jevington, The Ram At Firle, The Rose Cottage at Alciston, Silletts at Selmeston, Deans Place and The Star at Alfriston to name a few. There is an excellent local taxi service if required. Eastbourne and Brighton, with Theatres and Cinemas, promenades and beaches are half and hour's drive to the east and west respectively. |
