Bed and Breakfast Description

 

In 1996 the Barn complex was imaginatively restored and the buildings were converted to a high standard, retaining the original 18th century timbers where possible.
We offer guests a warm welcome as they share our home and make themselves comfortable in their ground-floor double-bedded ensuite room.
The most attractive feature of the complex is the Barn itself, which includes the dining area where full English breakfast is served, and the lounge area where our geusts can relax and, in winter, enjoy the log fire. Tea and coffee making facilites are available in the kitchen. Off-street parking is available within the gated driveway.
The area at the back of Barn provides a pleasant garden.
There are several public houses nearby offering varied menus for reasonably priced evening meals, whilst in Uckfield and Lewes there is a choice of restaurants.

 

Lewes Attractions

 
The locality has much to offer -Glyndebourne Opera House is 4 miles; the home of the Surrealists, Roland Penrose and Lee Miller is at Farley Farm House, Chiddingly - 1 mile; Charleston Farmhouse, of Bloomsbury Group fame and Firle Place, the Gage family home, are both 5 miles away.
Further afield, historic Lewes is 8 miles; Eastbourne 12 miles and Brighton, 18 miles. Newhaven,with ferries to France, Hickstead Show Jumping Ground, the Bluebell Railway and Gatwick Airport, are all within easy reach.
There are several public houses in the vicinity for evening meals which offer reasonably priced and varied menus, whilst in Uckfield and Lewes there is a choice of restaurants.
 

B&B Location
 
From Brighton, join the A27 at Sussex University and at the second roundabout showing exits to Lewes take 1st exit to Lewes. Go through the Cuilfail Tunnel, and turn right towards Uckfield. At the top of the hill take the right hand fork signposted B2192 (Ringmer) and follow instructions below.

From Lewes go through Ringmer (B2192), at the mini-roundabout take the B2124 Laughton/Hailsham (A22) road. Continue through Laughton until you reach Golden Cross, which is the junction with the A22. Turn left on to the A22 signposted London/Uckfield. Take the 1st right signposted Chiddingly. Whitesmith Barn is about 200 yards on the right.

From the A22, proceed south towards Eastbourne. By pass Uckfield. Shortly after the roundabout with turnings to East Hoathly you will see the sign for Whitesmith. Look out for a lay-by and public phone box on the left. Immediately turn sharp left into a lane signposted Chiddingly. Whitesmith Barn is about 200 yards on the right.
