|
Built in 1860, The Hollies has many wonderful exquisite Victorian period features tastefully enhanced by a modern and contemporary decor, creating a charming and elegant ambience. Once the home of the Glasgow architect, John Keppie - friend and associate of the famous Charles Rennie Mackintosh - it is now home to Helen and Stuart Campbell, and their family. With the same superb attention to detail, all our rooms have a sophisticated elegance with a strong sense of history and charm.
Our bedrooms are decorated simply and stylishly to allow the guest to relax and escape in the comfort of an elegant room. Each bedroom comes with sparkling white bathrooms or shower rooms, and is fully equipped with all those little touches you could possibly want, regardless of the occasion. Guests can look forward to crisp white bed linen and fluffy white towels for that sense of luxury, with HD LCD freeview televisions with PC interface internet TV, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities, along with an iron and ironing board in every room. Plus all our rooms have access to free Wireless Broadband Internet via your own laptop, enabling you to keep you in touch no matter where you are.
A hearty Scottish breakfast awaits all our guests in the sunny Breakfast Room, where a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon and sausages can be enjoyed along with a full selection of cereals, cheese, fruit juice, fruit and yoghurts. All Special Dietary needs can be accommodated with prior notice. Prestwick Attractions |
| |
The Hollies is located in the lovely seaside town of Prestwick, on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland, just 30 miles south of Glasgow. Prestwick is Scotland's oldest baronial burgh, dating back over one thousands years. The town's name, Prestwick, comes from Old English, priest's farm. Preost meaning Priest and wic meaning farm. The town was originally an outlying farm of a religious house.
Prestwick's other claim to fame is the first ever British Golf Open Championship was held here, at Old Prestwick Golf Course in 1860. However, Prestwick is best known for its international airport - Glasgow Prestwick International airport - which is situated at the north end of the town. One of it's most notable visitors being Elvis Presley, who touched down in 1960 en route to Germany.
Prestwick enjoys many bars and restaurants, all with-in walking distance of The Hollies, with The Red Lion Pub just 2 minutes walk away. It was here that the founders of Old Prestwick golf club used to meet for a 'wee' dram or two, in 1850. As well as a vibrant town, Prestwick enjoys a lovely beachfront with wonderful views out over the sea towards the Island of Arran and Ailsa Craig, which can result in some fantastic sunsets! |
