Bed and Breakfast Description

Hollytree Cottage is a Grade I listed stone-built house commanding uninterrupted views across undulating farmland in the little hamlet of Laverton. Historically, the Domesday Book mentions a rich cloth merchant living here and in nearby Bradford on Avon there are several charming medieval weavers’ cottages. The extensive space under the roof of the local George Pub in Norton St Philip was a medieval cloth sellers’ indoor market. The old Roman Road from Bath to Salisbury runs through Laverton where sites of Roman villas have been identified and archaeological digs are held annually.

Hollytree Cottage has a charming south-facing garden with a surprise around every corner. The many plants, shrubs and trees have been carefully chosen to provide seasonal colour throughout the year. Afternoon tea is offered free of charge to welcome visitors, either al fresco or in front of a log fire in the drawing room in winter.

The house has an air of genteel tranquillity and the antique furnishings are in keeping with this 17th century building. There are 2 double/twin bedrooms, one with an en suite private bathroom and the other with an enclosed modern shower and separate toilet room. There is a spacious double en suite room with four poster bed. Hairdryers, electric kettles, bath robes and toiletries are provided together with a choice of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. All bed linen is of high quality with goose-down duvets (or blankets on request) as Julia’s principal concern is for the comfort and well-being of her guests. She will go to great lengths to ensure that your stay is both memorable and enjoyable.

Julia provides a varied breakfast menu to suit individual requirements. The freshly-laid free range eggs come from the farm opposite. There is a wide selection of honey, cereals, home-made jams and marmalades and teas and coffees are from Fair Trade suppliers.

Bath Attractions

Visitors can enjoy the peace of the countryside at Hollytree Cottage and within a 20- Minute drive be in the hustle and bustle of Bath. Having explored the City and its Spa, Longleat, Stourhead, Stonehenge, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and the Somerset Levels are within easy driving distance. Further away the arboretum at Westonbirt in the Cotswolds is well worth a visit in late autumn.

A five-minute drive away is the 18-hole golf course at Orchardleigh in the enchanting village of Lullington. The Vale of the White Horse is a popular place for walking and can be seen from Laverton. Many of the surrounding villages have their own published scenic trails. There is pony trekking at nearby Wellow and boat trips along the canal from Bradford on Avon. For garden lovers there are many places to visit in the vicinity. Pre-West End shows can be seen at Bath’s Theatre Royal which has a Peter Hall season. Many music festivals and concerts are held in Bath, Bristol and other local towns and villages, and there are an unprecedented number of interesting museums to visit. Julia worked for 10 years at Bath’s Holburne Museum of Art and is able to advise visitors about where to go and what to see in Bath and beyond.
