Bed and Breakfast Description

A Victorian design of traditional stone and slate, The Hermitage was for several generations, the local Doctors home and practice. Set in its own grounds with private car parking, The Hermitage enjoys views of the magnificent Cairngorm Mountains and Ruthven Barracks from the garden. The Hermitage offers five well equipped and comfortable en-suite bedrooms with some little extras to help make your stay memorable. All our bedrooms are well equipped with: Controllable Thermostatic radiators, Hairdryer and Alarm clock radio, Complimentary Tea/Coffee making tray, Colour televisons / DVD players, Complimentary Toiletries & Ironing and a trouser press facilities.

Enjoy a hearty and healthy Scottish breakfast in our dining room over looking the garden and mountains. In the evening, Dinner is available and offers excellent home cooked menus with emphasis on fresh and local fare. The Hermitage is not licenced, however there is an off - licence located nearby should you wish to bring in drinks to enjoy with your meal or relax with in the guest lounge. We ask that meals be booked in advance where possible. In our large and comfortable guest lounge, with an open log fire on cooler evenings it is an ideal place to enjoy a malt whisky, glass of wine or beer or coffee after Dinner or after a day exploring the Highlands. You will also find a wide variety of books and games to relax with or to plan the next day ahead, a good selection of local information.

The Hermitage has a large garden to the rear with uninterrupted views of the magnificent Cairngorm Mountains to the East. Whilst Kingussie is an ideal place to relax and unwind, there is an enormous variety of things to see and do, whatever your interests. Owing to its central location, The Hermitage also makes it an excellent base for touring further afield - north to Inverness and the Moray Firth, south to Perthshire, east to the castles of Deeside or westwards towards Fort William and Oban.

Kingussie Attractions

Kingussie's location makes a day trip to several different skiing areas possible. Closest is the famous Cairngorm area and further east is the popular Lecht resort. To the west the Aonach Mor area, which boasts Scotland's only gondola lift. Both Cairngorm and Aonach Mor run lifts during the summer months, so you can climb the hills without the aches and pains the next morning! The area is criss-crossed by a vast network of footpaths traversing a range of terrains from glen to mountain to forest, and the climbing areas of the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountains are a short distance away. Some excellent local guide books are available to help you plan your routes.

Kingussie is situated right by the Spey, a river world famous for its beauty and its salmon fishing. A short drive from Kingussie you will find the RSPB Insh Marshes Reserve and the Loch Garten Osprey Reserve where many osprey chicks have been reared in recent years. There are 18 hole golf courses at Kingussie, Newtonmore, Boat of Garten and Grantown-on-Spey - all a stones-throw away. If that's not enough to keep you busy, the list goes on.... Pony trekking and mountain biking can be arranged locally and offer an alternative way to see our beautiful countryside. For the whisky enthusiast the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail is the ideal way to spend the day, and for those wishing to learn something of the areas eventful history or trace their ancestry, there are many heritage centres and museums in the area.
