Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Ann & Thomas would like to welcome you to their relaxing, quiet and peaceful highland home in a breathtaking coastal location amongst the Torridon mountains, within the picture postcard village of Shieldaig. Aurora is a well equipped, clean, environmentally aware, contemporary bed and breakfast. Comfortable beds, local tasty food and a wealth of information for you to get the most out of your time here. Every thought is given to our guests needs & comfort; from hand made local soap, wifi, drying room to a spacious new dining room with extensive glazing to take advantage of the views. We get wonderful sunsets from the guest living & dining rooms; overlook Shieldaig Island and have regular sightings of white tailed sea-eagles and pine marten. Come here to restore your sense of wellbeing.
All 3 en-suite bedrooms were refurbished winter 2006 to a give a more contemporary, luxurious feel with a nature inspired colour palette. This has included new carpeting, pocket sprung divan beds - firm yet yielding ensuring a comfortable night's rest and new bedding with combination duvets that are as light as a feather but mould beautifully around your body and give instant warmth. The first floor living room has some of the best sunset views in the village and overlooks Shieldaig Island and Loch Torridon. We are hoping to see the Aurora Borealis here one day! During winter 07-08 we added a drying room and toilet into a large entrance hall along with a spacious contemporary south facing dining room. There is a wifi throughout the house along with a computer for guests with broadband access. We love food and cooking. Our philosophy is to use good, local, organic (where possible) produce and cook it simply and seasonally. We believe in slow food, minimal food miles and even grow some of our own produce. There is a wealth of good food around us to choose from. |

Strathcarron Attractions |
| |
This is a wild and wonderful place encompassing mountains, glens, lochs and beaches. You can get completely off the beaten track, walk for miles and not see another person. Rare plants, animals, birds, butterflies and moths can be spotted, if you are patient and look carefully. There is a plethora of artists from all genres using and taking inspiration from what is around us here - textiles, pottery, metal work and painting to name but a few. Very talented people can be found in each community producing small through to major pieces of work - some to view & others to purchase.
Such a special area also warrants just being still and absorbing the atmosphere. Time spent soaking up the peace and quiet, breathing clean air, listening to the sounds of the sea shore, enjoying the quality of light and stunning views. Read a book, go painting, bird spotting, paddling in a canoe or fishing? There are several mountain guides who can be booked in advance to take you into more challenging territory amongst the high mountains and Munros. The most local, qualified guide living in the village is Jim Sutherland who runs ‘916’. The Loch Torridon Hotel also runs a guided range of activities. Most of our suggestions are no more than an hour away within Wester Ross and a 50 mile radius. We are keen to showcase what this area has to offer without contributing too much to global warming and encouraging you out of your vehicles! |
