Glenshiel Attractions

Stunning views of Loch Duich & the mountains of Kintail from the hill looking down on Glomach House & Croft Cottage. Ideal for hill walking, wildlife watching, visiting castles or just getting away from it all to enjoy the scenery! There are lots of options for eating out including local hotels & pubs. The Jac-O-bite Restaurant is just 150 metres away, so you can easily have dinner there and stroll back.

Just 6 miles away at the opposite end of the loch sits Eilean Donan Castle. Open to the public from mid March to mid November, it is highly photogenic at any time of year! The castle has historic connections with the Macraes and the Mackenzies of Kintail. Near the castle you can take a stroll along the picturesque main street of the village of Dornie. Also close by, visitors can enjoy the Lochalsh Woodland Garden at Balmacara, or plan a hike to the Falls of Glomach. Or head for the scenic village of Plockton and the hills of Wester Ross.

From the house you can easily take the scenic drive over Mam Ratagan and visit Pictish brochs (over 1500 years old) and the ruins of Bernera Barracks (built to deter the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion). At the end of the road, Glenelg has a small ferry operating to the Isle of Skye (Easter - October only). Alternatively, visit the island via the Skye Bridge (14 miles from our location). For those with clan ancestors, we are very close to the Macrae graveyard pictured here overlooking Loch Duich. Also nearby is the mountain which is historically featured on the clan Mackenzie crest with the motto 'Tullach Ard'.
