Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Kirkton House is a Guest House near Glasgow and Loch Lomond - only 8 miles by road from the famous loch, 18 miles west of Glasgow, and 15 miles from Glasgow Airport. The guest house commands an elevated position and panoramic rural views of the river Clyde from two acres of grounds, above the north Clyde village of Cardross. The location offers not only a quiet first and last port of call before and after flights to/from Glasgow Airport, but also provides an ideal staging post for those travelling north and south through Glasgow to and from the west highland and islands routes.
There are six bedrooms - four that can be set up as double, twin, or family rooms. The other two guest rooms are twin bedded (this means that they have two single beds) – one has an extra couch for a child. Private en-suite facilities, with bath and / or shower, are a feature of every room at Kirkton House. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, one of which is suitable for a wheelchair with assistance.
There is an informal and relaxed ambience, with friendly but unobtrusive personal service - from guest house hosts Stewart and Gillian Macdonald, who have been responsible for the development of the accommodation for over twenty-three years. The 'Olde Worlde' style public rooms have many authentic and original features. There is an internet cafe in the lounge available for a nominal fee, and free Wi-Fi internet facilities throughout the guest house. |

Argyll Attractions |
| |
Loch Lomond International Golf Course is just 15-20 minutes drive away - unfortunately, access is restricted to Members only, and to spectator ticket holders for Professional events and tournaments. However, the local golf courses are excellent - usually open to visitors on Monday to Friday.
Glasgow has many cultural attractions and places of interest to visit (take the train and save the strain!) - the Burrell Collection/Pollok House is probably the best museum in the UK, situated in beautiful parkland just south of Glasgow. There are art galleries, the transport museum, cathedral, Rennie Macintosh Art School, tea rooms, shopping malls and the 'Barrows' flea market, to name just a few.
A favorite day trip for guests is to take the Highland train from Helensburgh Upper station (4 miles away) and enjoy the highland scenery without the hassle of driving all the way to Oban or Fort William and Mallaig. The train passes through some spectacular scenery. A popular day trip is to drive round to the Isle of Bute - taking the short northern ferry crossing onto the island returning via Wemyss Bay ferry to the south side of the Clyde.
Another pleasant day trip by car (3 hours driving) is up the west side of Loch Lomond via Luss to Crianlarich, across to the falls of Dochart at Killin returning via Callander (Rob Roy Centre), Loch Katrine (steamer boat rides), Queen Elizabeth Forest (walks) and Aberfoyle. |

B&B Location
|
| |
The north Clyde village of Cardross is only 18 miles west of Glasgow and 15 miles from Glasgow Airport [less than 30 minutes easy drive - even for those on the wrong side of the road!] making this an ideal location for visitors to Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Hill House in Helensburgh, and the Trossachs.
The Clyde submarine base at Faslane is just 8 miles away, or less than 20 minutes drive.
The car journey to Glasgow takes about 40 minutes, or you could use the half hourly train service that operates from Queen Street (Lower Level) Station to Cardross (about 1 mile away from the guest house) – journey time 34 minutes.
Village Directions: At the west end of Cardross Village, turn north off the A814 up Darleith Road (Hotel sign on floral triangular traffic island at the junction). After about 700 yards (passing out of the main housing line) through trees and then with fields on either side, 3 cottages will be on your right. Turn right into Kirkton House drive immediately after the 3rd cottage. About 100 yards up the drive turn right up to the guest house car park entrance.
