Bed and Breakfast Description

Kenmore Bank Bed & Breakfast offers visitors a helpful and friendly atmosphere. The B&B is situated high over the River Jed with panoramic views of the Abbey and the ancient town of Jedburgh. Garden Grounds with riverside view. Dating from at least 1854, the building Kenmore Bank was for many years owned by the local mill until it was renovated to include all modern amenities.

There are always lots of events taking place in the Borders all the year round such as the Edinburgh Tattoo, only 45 minutes away, the RAC Rally, the Borders Cycling Festival. Good base for all activities. There are a variety of friendly golf courses in and around Jedburgh. And for walkers Jedburgh is part of the Scottish Borders Paths network.

Jedburgh Attractions

One of the border abbeys is Jedburgh Abbey, founded by David I around 1138 for Augustinian canons. The church is built in the Romanesque and early Gothic styles and is remarkably complete. Remains of the cloister buildings have been uncovered and finds from the excavations, including the 12th century 'Jedburgh comb' are on display. The visitor centre and part of the church through the cemetery are accessible to those using wheelchairs but there are steps to the herb garden and cloisters. Interpretation boards are at a good height and there is a video in the visitor centre. There are aromatic plants in the herb garden and a stone display at the west end.

Built in 1820 Jedburgh Castle Jail is an important example of Howard Reform Prison architecture. Displays explore the development of the Jail and what it would have been like to be a prisoner and a guard. The history of the Royal Burgh of Jedburgh is shown in the Jailer's House. Audio tours and foreign language guides available.

Formerly the fruit garden for the nearby Monteviot House, the Woodside Walled Garden is now the setting for an independent plant nursery that stocks a wide range of unusual hardy perennials, herbs, alpines, fruit, shrubs and trees. Woodside has a reputation for top quality plants, backed by first class service and advice from knowledgeable staff. The garden has an excellent café (much loved by the locals!) which serves soups, sandwiches and cakes, using local seasonal produce and all freshly made on the premises. Woodside is also home to an organic demonstration garden (run by ASK Organic and manned on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays between March and October). Woodside Walled Garden is open all year, entry to the garden is free and you are encouraged to explore at your leisure.
