Peterhead Attractions

Peterhead Bay Marina: Peterhead Bay Marina is a purpose built leisure facility catering for local and visiting boatowners. The marina gives Peterhead one of the finest equipped leisure harbours in the East of Scotland, offering a comprehensive range of services and facilities for the leisure sailor.

Boddam lighthouse: was the work of Robert Stephenson 1803-1859 (son of George Stephenson and grandfather of Robert Louis Stephenson). The lighthouse was established in 1827 and was automated in 1988. It is 115ft high, flashing white every 5 seconds, visible for 28 nautical miles. The nearby fog-horn (3 blasts of 3 seconds every 90 seconds)was discontinued in 2000.

Slains Castle is a ruined castle near Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, overlooking the North Sea. The huge ruin of New Slains Castle stands perched atop tall, sea-facing cliffs. The castle was constructed around an existing tower house in 1597 by the 9th Earl of Erroll. Significant reconstruction of the castle has been carried out a number of times, lastly in 1837. It was altered in 1664 when a corridor was inserted within the courtyard and again in 1836 it was rebuilt and granite faced. At one time it had three extensive gardens.

Nestling in the dunes above the point where the River Ugie and the North Sea meet you will find Peterhead Golf Club, one of the finest links courses to be found in Scotland. The club, founded in 1841, is the 18th oldest golf club in the world. The original nine-hole course was laid out by Willie Park Jnr, with extensions to 18 holes being made in 1908 and a second nine-hole course added later. This is an original links course and its layout owes very little to man's handiwork, as its creator used the natural contours of the land. Indeed, it is one of the most testing venues for a round of golf in Scotland.
