Bed and Breakfast Description

Abbey Lodge was built around 1852. Well to do merchant families were anxious to secure plots for summer residences in the fashionable seaside resort being laid out by the Mostyn family. The house has had many different owners over 145 years.

In 2005 we became the current owners of this lovely Victorian house which shelters at the foot of the Great Orme in Abbey Road. A quiet street only 5 minutes walk from the promenade and pier of North Shore.

Relax in the comfortable drawing room with the morning papers before enjoying an Abbey Lodge breakfast in the Victorian style dining room.

Choose from a variety of fruit and cereals. Yogurts, sausages, bacon and eggs are sourced from our local farmers market. Individual tastes can be catered for, just ask.

A warm welcome awaits our house guests. We own and run Abbey Lodge and this enables us to offer the kind of personal service and attention to detail which characterised a bygone age.

Abbey Lodge has four comfortable double en-suite bedrooms available to guests. Each room is individually decorated and furnished to a high standard.

We take pride in the cleanliness of our bedrooms and bathrooms. All rooms have beautifully appointed bathrooms with showers and are supplied with fresh towels and cosy towelling bathrobes.

You will find all the usual toiletries you would expect in a guest house which is one of the few to be included in the Lonely Planet guide.

Llandudno Attractions

Llandudno is a "thriving town that already ranks as the Queen of Welsh Watering-places. It’s future will no doubt be one of satisfactory progress; for art and science are there combining to plant amidst nature’s glorious scenes a welcome resort, whither the busy classes of society may hasten to forget the dust and turmoil, the noise and excitement of the work-a–day world, in that happy season of serene enjoyment - a seaside holiday” So wrote a Mr Maitland of Liverpool in 1851.

Today it is still possible to walk along the old town’s wide streets and admire the elegant Victorian and Edwardian buildings. Many of them listed and carefully conserved.

“And then it’s off for a stroll back down the prom with the finest seaside frontage anywhere in Britain. Mostyn Street retains the variety of lots and lots of individually owned shops with frontages that Grace Brothers would die for, intermingled with pubs, restaurants, shopping arcades and welcoming cafes.” Patrick O’Neill Editor of Cheshire Life May 2007

Abbey Lodge is a great base from which to explore this stylish town which has a rich heritage dating back to the Stone Age.

Take the Victorian tram up the Great Orme and hop off halfway to explore the copper mines dating from the Bronze Age.

Stroll through the back streets of the old town where you will find cottages dating from the town’s farming and fishing days. Stop off for lunch at the Cocoa House where the suffragettes met to plan their campaign to win votes for women.

With it’s fashionable busy café bars and fine restaurants Llandudno has something for all the family and is an ideal location from which to explore Snowdonia.
