Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Here the views of the mountains and valleys are beautiful. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding hills, the sound of the stream running through the garden and the expanse of the sky which, on a cloudless night can reveal a million stars.

Berthlas Farmhouse is situated near the village of Trefeglwys and set in a sheltered dip up in the Montgomeryshire hills in the heart of Mid Wales. There are a number of half timbered Tudor houses in our community, some of which are important listed buildings. Berthlas Farm House is one of them and is a fine example of a timber-framed farmhouse, circa 17th century. Berthlas is under three miles from the village and in 1797 a Sunday school was held here. In 1803 a free school was established making Berthlas the real beginning of schooling in this part of the community.

The old market-town of Llanidloes is 8 miles away – market day is Saturday.

Our accommodation offers:

Two interconnecting rooms, one double and one twin-bedded. Combined, they can provide for a family or group. We also provide a cot.
Please note we take just one booking at a time therefore you will be the sole guests staying.

Due to the listing criteria and age of this unique building we do not have en suite bathrooms. There is a separate bathroom solely for guests' use.

There is also a lounge with a wood burning stove for guests’ use. Wfi available.

We specialise only in vegetarian/vegan meals using whole-food, organic and fair-trade produce wherever possible.

We share our house with our dog Otto and two cats,Timmy and Maxi.

We can also provide security for bike storage. The area is ideal for walkers and cyclists.

Conditions of Booking

We ask that you send a cheque for the entire time of your stay which will be cashed if you cancel less than a week prior to anticipated arrival. On your arrival we can then accept your cheque or return it to you and accept cash.

It is just one hour's drive west to the sea from Berthlas to the busy, popular university town and resort of Aberystwyth.Llanidloes the small market town popular for it's Saturday market is only 8 miles away. We are a mere 45 minutes drive to Machynlleth and The Centre for Alternative Technology. The Royal Welsh Show ground at Builth Wells is an hour's drive away.

Hay-on-Wye; the town of books and its annual literary festival is a further 20/30 minutes from Builth Wells.

We are only 3 miles away from the Trefeglwys Clay Shooting Range. 3miles from Higgins Forest Experience Rally School

Access Statement

Berthlas is reached down a farm track of approximately 100 yards which has two cattle grids.

After the second cattle grid, turn immediately left where parking is permitted at the side of the house. In wet weather the ground - which is on a downward slope around the front of the property - can become rather muddy making wheelchair access difficult.
There is a stony path leading to the front gate and then to the front door.

Access to bedrooms is reached by a very short flight of stairs. The bathroom is downstairs.

Children 12 years and under £15.00 per night. There is no charge for babies under 2 years of age.
