Bed and Breakfast Description

Richard and Medina invite you to stay with them in their traditional old stone farmhouse & converted barns, and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the undiscovered Radnorshire & Shropshire borderlands...an area steeped in history, myth and legend.

We are pleased to offer a warm & friendly welcome to guests seeking quality 4 Star (Welsh Tourist Board) Bed & Breakfast or Self-Catering accommodation in the heart of the countryside. With walking, cycling, and riding from our doorstep, the Brandy House offers endless opportunities for exploring the surrounding hills and nature reserves. Self-guided outdoor breaks are available, as well as stabling and grazing for your horses.

Whatever you choose to do whilst with us, we offer modern standards of comfort in a beautiful & traditional setting, with a choice of twin, double, four-poster or family rooms.

The Four-Poster room and Hayloft room are both located within the farmhouse, while the Terracotta room is in our barn conversion. All have been carefully furnished with attention to detail and have en-suites.

There are tea and coffee-making facilities in each room, as well as a selection of books & magazines and a colour television so that you can relax and unwind.

In the morning we will serve you with a traditional Aga-cooked breakfast, and would be happy to prepare you a packed lunch. For evening meals, there is a choice of several pubs within the valley or further afield.

The country side offers fabulous riding. With direct access onto 5000acres of Crown Estate there are endless opportunities for exploring. We keep horses ourselves and offer stabling and grazing facilities for those of you who want to explore the area with your own horse.

Knighton Attractions

This is a rural area off the beaten track. We overlook the valley of The River Teme which creates the border between England and Wales.

The surrounding area is ideal for exploring by foot, bike or horse...within a short distance there are lots of interesting things to see and do.

Our nearest towns are Knighton and Newtown. In Knighton you'll find the Offa's Dyke Heritage Centre and the Powys Observatory, both well worth a visit. The road to Newtown is spectacular, taking you past the source of the River Teme, and as you drive over the top you will more than likely see Welsh mountain ponies on the hill. For a lovely way to explore the surrounding villages and countryside you could try touring the Churches of St Michael. Don't leave without a visit to the spectacular Abbeycwmhir Hall, one of Wales' finest examples of Victorian Gothic Revival Architecture.

This is a fabulous area to explore by bike. There are lots of quiet country lanes which are fun to cycle and an extensive network of foot and bridle paths if you enjoy off-road cycling.

Although much of the Beacon tends to be un-waymarked, this area provides excellent terrain for cross-country running. It is a challenge.

Places possible to visit in a day from the Brandy House include the Elan Valley, Lake Vernwy, Machynlleth where you will find Celtica and 'experience the world of the Celts', and the Alternative Technology Centre. Even the sea is only 1.5 hours away!

On the Powis Estate Showground in Newtown each September, enjoy a weekend of exhibitions, activities and demonstrations to celebrate the natural power and beauty of wood at the Powis Wood Fair.

B&B Location

We are 'off the beaten track' and public transport is limited. The best way to reach us is by car. However there are mainline train stations at both Knighton and Newtown. We are happy to meet you from the train if you are planning a walking or cycling break with us. There is also public coach service to Newtown.

Local directions:
The Brandy House is on the edge of the village of Felindre which is 10 miles from Knighton and 12 miles from Newtown on the B4355.

If you are approaching from Knighton, turn up a sharp left as you pass the speed limit sign on reaching the village, opposite the village sign (please note that the Brandy House is not signed). Continue up the lane over the two cattle-grids and we are at the top about 150 metres from the main road.

If you are approaching from Newtown, leave on the A483 (signed Llandrindod Wells) to Dolfor. Turn left onto the B4355. Go through the village of Felindre and as you leave it, turn up to your right just before the end of speed limit sign (please note that the Brandy House is not signed). Continue up the lane over the two cattle-grids and we are at the top about 150 metres from the main road.
