Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Welcome to Fern Villa, our B&B set in the village of Goodwick near Fishguard. We offer comfortable and affordable accommodation with beautiful views of the North Pembrokeshire coastline and countryside. Fern Villa is a 130 year old Victorian house set in 3/4 acre of mature gardens, which guests are welcome to relax and explore.

All our rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious with digital colour T.V, radio alarm clocks and complimentary tea & coffee facilities. Our double bedrooms are en-suite with beautiful views of Dinas Head and the North Pembrokeshire coastline and countryside. Our twin bedroom is en-suite with views overlooking the garden and our single bedroom has the exclusive use of a large bathroom and also overlooks the garden.We are able to supply extra beds or a travel cot to accommodate children if required. Our breakfast room is light and sunny looking out over the sea, and our breakfast will set you up for the day.

Fern Villa is the ideal base to explore the delights of Pembrokeshire. We are a 2 minute walk from the coastal path which stretches 186 miles in total, with all its stunning clifftop scenery. Why not take the Marine Walk into Lower Fishguard Harbour and see if you can spot any seals or even dolphins! Beach wise there is plenty on offer - Newport, Whitesands, Newgale and Tenby. Inland you can explore the quiet Gwaun Valley and see the standing stones of Pentre Ifan in the Presili mountains. The Stena ferry to Ireland is close to Fern Villa and we are happy to welcome late arrivals, we can pick you up from here and the train station by prior arrangement.

Whether you fancy a lazy weekend or an action packed week, Fern Villa makes an ideal base. We have parking available and offer safe storage for bikes. Buses serving the whole of the county and beyond are almost outside our B&B, and Hertz car rental is available locally.

Fishguard Attractions

 
Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a two minute walk from our B & B and runs for 186 miles between Amroth in the South and St. Dogmaels in the North. It is the only national coastal path in Britain and leads to some of the most dramatic and spectacular coastal scenery in Britain. Local Buses can drop you off at certain points along the path where you can then walk back to Fishguard and Fern Villa. We are keen walkers ourselves and are happy too give advice and lend you books and maps.

Goodwick Sands is an award winning family beach providing safe bathing. The Ocean Lab on the Parrog houses the Tourist Information Centre and has a soft play area for the under fives. Goodwick Moor, a nature reserve, lies behind the beach and attracts a wide variety of wildlife.

Strumble Head is a spectacular headland covered in wild flowers, and is delightful whatever the weather. The sunsets are particularly breathtaking. There is a sheltered bird observatory on top of the cliff which is ideal for birdwatching and spotting dolphins and sometimes whales. Seals rear their pups on the nearby beaches.

Lower Fishguard Harbour and the Gwaun Valley renowned for its largely undiscovered beauty, the river Gwaun flows from the Preselli hills to Lower Fishguard Harbour.

The Preselli Hills are ideal for walking, horse riding or touring by car. At their highest point on a clear day you may see the Snowdonia Mountain Range in North Wales and the Wicklow Mountain Range in Ireland. The 'bluestones' at Stonehenge are believed to have come from here. Pentre Ifan is an ancient burial chamber situated on the Northern slopes.

St. David's is the smallest city in Britain and is famous for its catherdral and is well worth a visit.

There are a number of local activities to suit all tastes and ages such as golf, go- karting, diving, coasteering, horse riding and sea and river fishing which we would be happy to advise you on.

Directions from the M4 (West):

Head west along the M4 untill the end of the motorway.
Take the A48 towards Carmarthen.
At Carmarthen take the A40 signposted Haverfordwest/ Fishguard.
As you approach Fishguard keep on the A40 signposted Goodwick (also signposted for the ferry) this will take you to the seafront.
Pass the petrol station and Tesco's on your left. At the roundabout go straight across and head up the hill.
Immediately after the Hope & Anchor and Rose & Crown pub turn left, then left again into Main Street, passing the shops.
Church Road is ahead on a right hand turn. Fern Villa is on the right hand side up the hill before you get to the Church. We have plenty of parking.
