Welcome to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn - a delightful 17th century free house offering 3 star bed and breakfast accommodation in the historic Peak District village of Castleton.
A warm welcome awaits you at this traditional, family-run ‘proper' pub. Karen and John have ensured it retains a real flavour of days gone by and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that is sure to refresh visitors however short their stay. To maintain the traditional and welcoming ambience we have become famous for, you will not find any pool tables or juke boxes in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn. Instead, you are free to sit undisturbed beside the fires in our heavily-beamed, cosy bar area and enjoy a drink and a chat in quiet, relaxed surroundings. We keep a wide choice of award-winning cask ales and also serve good, wholesome food in both the bar and restaurant.
We have ten tastefully-decorated en-suite bedroom comprising two with four-poster beds, two premium doubles, four doubles, one twin and one single. All our rooms are comfortably appointed with colour television, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. Our rates are per room and start from £35.00 per night for the single room and £65.00 for a double, inclusive of full English breakfast. Please note that all our rooms are non-smoking. |

Castleton Attractions |

Castleton is an ideal base from which to explore the Peak District National Park. There is plenty to see and do, both for people seeking relaxation and tranquility, and for those looking for an active break. The town itself has a good selection of shops, pubs, places to eat and walks are available from the doorstep of our pub!
The landscape of the Peak Park is especially good for walkers and climbers, with interesting terrain varying from beautiful, wooded valleys to rugged moorland.
The White Peak is characterised by its limestone landscape with flat plateaux, dales, woodland and rivers. The Dark Peak, in contrast, is known for its gritstone edges - popular with rock climbers, and fast flowing streams and valleys. Castleton village sits at the very top of the White Peak, but also near to the Dark Peak, so it's possible to enjoy both contrasting areas quite easily.
Aside from walking and climbing, other activities popular in the Peak District are gliding, horse riding, golf and fishing, to name but a few. Just ask the new owners Karen and John if you are interested in these activities or browse the activities outlined in this Peak District Guide.
Within the village of Castleton itself, you'll find the famous show caves including the Blue John Cavern and Peak Cavern, newly referred to as the Devil's Arse!. The Cavern is home to eight of the fourteen known varieties of the beautiful Blue John Stone. The mineral has been mined here for centuries. Guided tours are conducted through the cave system at short regular intervals. Each tour lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour during which time a series of magnificent natural water-worn caverns are seen. Blue John can be seen in it's natural state along with stalactites, stalagmites and huge caverns. |
