Bed and Breakfast Description


The house is set in landscaped, mature award-winning gardens overlooking Bala Lake. All the bright, spacious bedrooms have en-suite luxury bathrooms, a colour TV with teletext, VCR and remote control, a clock-radio, beverage facilities and wine glasses & cork-screw. The bathrooms are provided with a diverse range of toiletries and bath sheets. The bedrooms are named after local mountain ranges and have lake views. All beds have 4-season white goose-down duvets and home-made quilts are provided in some bedrooms.

Guests can relax in front of a log fire in the drawing room, browse the library or write letters. Books with local interest include "The Story of Mary Jones and her Bible" and "I bought a Mountain" by Thomas Firbank.

A leisurely breakfast taken in the dining room, with views of the mountain-stream flowing through the garden, will make a fine start to the day. Meals are opportunities to discuss plans for the next day and share today's experiences with other guests. Our speciality is home cooking with the best, fresh, local products, including freshly baked bread, home-made preserves and fresh free-range eggs. We have our own kitchen garden and free-range hens. Special diets can be catered for, including sport competitors.

For a party of up to six, you can book exclusive use of Abercelyn Country House.

For a special occasions try the Aran bedroom with whirlpool bath.


Bala Attractions

The town of Bala is a short stroll away along the side of Lake Bala. There is ready access to the many tourist attractions of the Snowdonia National Park and North Wales.

Abercelyn is well situated to take advantage of the various activities on offer around Bala, in the Snowdonia National Park, and in particular the outstanding local water-sports facilities and un-crowded walking in three mountain ranges, with the Aran ridge nearby. Visitors can choose from bed & breakfast or self-catering accommodation and use our library of walking & canoeing guide books together with our advice on outdoor activities. There is a lockable bike store, bike wash facilities and drying room available. The award-winning landscaped garden is available for visitors to explore. The garden is an ideal place for bird watching.

B&B Location

In the Bala to Dolgellau direction, continue through Bala towards Dolgellau on the A494, ½-mile after Bala, pass the sign for Llanycil (drive safely) and turn right opposite the church, just before the right turn to Parc.

In the Dolgellau to Bala direction, take the A494, pass the sign for Llanycil (Drive safely) and turn left opposite the church, just after the left turn for Parc.

Note this is the turn for Parc in Llanycil.

By local Bus: the Bala to Dolgellau bus-service stops at Llanycil Church just outside Abercelyn. Bus service: Barmouth-Dolgellau-Llanycil-Bala-Wrexham (Arriva X94).
