Bed and Breakfast Description

This impressive stone house was built in the 1840's by the Bernard family who built the nearby Kinnitty Castle now a famous Irish Castle Wedding venue. The house is set in a beautiful 2-acre garden with views onto the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

Ardmore Country House is a delightful period guesthouse combining modern facilities with period features. With it's turf fire, antique furnishings, good home cooking {delicious home made Irish Soda bread, scones and jams} and friendly, relaxed atmosphere, this charming Country house is a place one wants to linger in.

At Ardmore House Bed and Breakfast we offer comfortable accommodation of the highest standard with the character only available from a truly Victorian period house. We have 5 bedrooms - 1 standard with wash-hand basin and seperate private bathroom. 4 with en-suite shower/wash basin/w.c. A ground floor en-suite double room (with shower) is suitable for most disabled requirements.

Birr Attractions

If you just want to escape from it all to peace and tranquility the picturesque village of Kinnitty is the ideal base for exploring the midlands of Ireland - the real Ireland . Located at the crossroads of Ireland half way between Belfast and Cork, Galway and Dublin, Sliego and Wexford.

From Ardmore House you can see the magical Slieve Bloom Mountains, steeped in history and folklore (according to legend was home to Fionn Mac Cumhaill where as a child he lived with his mother for the first 7 years of his life) from megalithic times though Ireland's golden era of Saints & Scholars to more modern history of settlement and conflict of the Ely O'Carroll (Eile meaning area).

Here you will meet the real Irish, experience the culture, folklore and music performed for themselves, and not as some 'stage show' aimed at tourists .

There is an abundance of activities to suit everyone, from walking the gentle rolling hills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains (3/4 day guided walking breaks available) cycling, trekking, horse riding, golf (within easy reach of many fine golf courses), spa treatment, to visiting the heritage sites of Clonmacnoise, Birr Castle Gardens and Telescope, Leap Castle Ireland's most haunted, West Offaly Railway, Lough Boora Nature Reserve, Shannon Callows. In the evening relax in a cozy pub and dine in a variety of fine restaurants.

Other attractions within an hours drive are Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre, Athlone Castle, and The Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny city. If you are exploring the rugged west coast of Ireland, why not stop a night or two to experience the contrast. Kinnitty is far removed from the commercialism of busy resorts like Killarney, Dingle, Galway or indeed Dublin, still retaining a charm and pace more reminiscent of Ireland of the past than that of today.
