Local Attractions
Some call Meath the 'Heart of Irish Civilisation'. An area of rich limestone plain, Meath countryside surrounds the Boyne, a river which represents a touchstone in the history of Ireland. The Boyne Valley has borne witness to almost every stage of Irish history from prehistoric times to the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 when King William III defeated the exiled King James II for the crown of England. Meath, once referred to as the Royal County because it was ruled by the kings of pagan Ireland and early Christian Ireland, is now better known for the Book of Kells. This hand-illustrated Latin manuscript of the four gospels was meticulously produced here in the ninth century and is on display in Trinity College Dublin. Other attractions include Butterstream Gardens, Trim; Grove Gardens, Kells; Loughcrew Historic Gardens, Oldcastle; and Mountainstown House at Castletown in Navan.

Depart Dublin Airport on local road(s) (East) (follow signs for "Way Out" and "City Center An Lar")
Follow M1 south towards "City Center An Lar". Take exit on left for M50 (to N2/N3/N4)
At M50's entry round-about, follow sign for (West) then travel along M50 for At M50-N3 junction, take left exit labeled "N3" then travel through round-abouts (North) onto N3
At Black Bull, bear RIGHT (North) onto R155 for 6.5 km (Exit sign says Ratoath and Fairyhouse)
At stop sign in Ratoath, turn LEFT (West) onto R125 [L143]
At first 4-way cross road (L143), turn RIGHT (North) onto local road for 1.1 km (yes it is a very narrow road)
At 3 way "Y" intersection, continue left (West)
Take second driveway on right. Arrive at Flemingtown House B&B
