Local Attractions

Chippenham sits in idyllic countryside where timeless villages of mellow stone cottages are scattered across the rolling downland and wooded river valleys.

Among these villages lie Castle Combe, acclaimed as England's prettiest village and the National Trust village of Lacock. Abbey House, Pound Hill and Sheldon Manor and their glorious gardens are all within close striking distance whilst the market towns of Calne, Malmesbury, Corsham, Cricklade and Wootton Bassett offer enticing antique shops, local crafts and fresh produce at weekly street and Farmers' markets.

If you're feeling a little more energetic there are several very good Golf Courses or for more excitement there's the Castle Combe Race Circuit.

Bath

A city of breathtaking beauty with a romantic history. Ever since the legendary Prince Bladud was restored to health around BC860 by the mysterious waters, people have journeyed to the hot spring at Bath. In Celtic times the sacred spring was surrounded by an oak tree grove, where druids worshipped the guardian goddess Sul. In 43AD, The Romans built a magnificent temple to their goddess Minerva where the druids' grove had been and Bath now has the most famous Roman remains in Britain.

The classical architecture of the eighteenth-century Georgian Baths offers a real feast for the eyes since there are more grade 1 listed buildings in Bath than in central London. Bath is the only city in Britain to designated as a 'World Heritage Site', an honour it received in 1987.

Bowood

The original imposing stately home of Bowood was mostly demolished in 1955. The remaining wing is set in glorious Capability Brown designed parkland which also has a tremendous Adventure Playground to keep the young at heart excited whilst the library and paintings are well worth a visit by the more culturally minded!
