Bed and Breakfast Description
|
|
The Brendon Arms is the best pub in Bude serving great beers and fine wines. We offer sizzling steaks and locally caught seafood selected and cooked by our expert chefs, three star bed and breakfast or b&b accommodation.
The Brendon Arms has been offering the "Warmest welcome in the West" since 1872. We offer the finest in Cornish produced foods such as locally caught lobster (in season), kept alive in our oxygenated tank. "Home-made" specials change daily and will always include a seafood choice, a vegetarian option, or firm favourites such as steak and kidney or a cottage pie: a beef bourguignon or beef madras. We use fresh locally caught fish and locally reared meat wherever possible.
Take in the local scene at Bude's best situated and most popular pub. The Public Bar shows all Sky TV Sports, and there are Darts, Pool, and a modern Sound System. The Brendon Arms is a family oriented pub;for example, the juke box sound is reduced until 9pm to permit normal conversation: children and dogs (in the Public Bar) are welcome. The Lounge (Lifeboat) Bar, where one places food orders, has a relaxed, comfortable, and suitably nautical atmosphere: there is no juke box and if the TV is on it's always on mute. We have built the best heated smoking shelter in Bude. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet and ample free parking.
Warm bright and airy twin-bedded or double bedrooms, all with en-suite shower facilities and furnished to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Every room is TV and hair dryer equipped.
We serve a full English, (or yogurt and fruit if you prefer). We cater for vegetarians, but please advise us of any special dietary requirements you may have. All of the rooms are named after wrecks from Bude's sailing days - Capricorno, Ceres, Llandaff, Crystal Spring, President Garfield, Wild Pigeon, Concezione, Elizabeth and Giles Lang. |

Local Attractions
|
Bude is a small seaside resort town on the North Cornish Coast close to the Cornwall/Devon border. The growth of Bude in the early 20th century as a resort town was in part due to the arrival of a railway branch line, the Victorian liking for bathing in the sea, and the romance of wild seas and scenery. The Arthurian legend also drew attention to the area.
Bude has a small fishing industry, and a range of small local businesses, but tourism is the mainstay of the local economy. Bude has a wide range of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, and evenings out, even at the height of the season offer plenty of variety.
In times gone past Bude was a coastal port of some significance, and the Bude Canal built between 1819 and 1825, was designed in the main to carry "Bude Sand", which was high in salts and suitable for digging in to the local clay soil, throughout the area to improve its drainage and greatly improve yields.
As well as having a very interesting history, Bude has much to offer people of all ages, throughout the year.
The environment is superb. The South West Coast Path follows the cliffs and beaches through Bude, and offers excellent and sometimes challenging walking, Bude is on the Sustrans cycle network and is a focal point for many routes throughout Devon and Cornwall. Crooklets beach, Summerleaze beach and the fine beach nearby at Widemouth Bay offer fine waves for swimmers, surfers and kayakers.
Families can relax in the safety of the Bude Sea-Pool, which has just been upgraded to meet modern safety standards. You can take to the waves under the supervision of RNLI lifeguards (throughout the holiday season, for specified times of the day).
Attractions such as the Clovelly, Dartmoor, Padstow, Eden Project, Morwellham Quay, The National Maritime Museum, Tintagel Castle and many others are within easy reach by car. |

B&B Location

|
From Exeter follow A30 Dual Carriageway to Okehampton and then Launceston. At Launceston leave the A30 and follow signs to Bude. On entering Bude some 17 miles from Launceston continue downhill until you come to a roundabout. Take the 1st exit from the roundabout cross the Bude Canal Bridge and the Brendon Arms is on the right hand side directly.
