Bed and Breakfast Description

For many years we used to escape the hectic and sometimes stressful life of business by coming to St. Ives and the West Penwith Peninsula. The dramatic coast and rugged hills provide for a wealth of walks and wildlife. The warm climate, influenced by the Gulf Stream, creates the ideal environment for many unique and spectacular gardens.

The industrial heritage and the growth of the arts movement are reflected in the area's culture, both past and present. In addition, the picturesque fishing village of St. Ives retains much of its original character, yet is a centre for good restaurants and amenities.

Whatever draws you to St. Ives, we will provide you with exclusive accommodation and help you relax, in order to make the most of your stay. We take a maximum of three people and, as our only guests, we promise you privacy, comfort, warm hospitality and good food. We can spend time with you to find out what activities and attractions you most enjoy and help you find them. If there is something you wish to arrange ahead, please give us a call.

Copper Beech is our home and therefore it is furnished to a high standard. During your stay we want you to feel 'at home' and we try to provide you with all the facilities to make the most of your visit.

The spacious en-suite double bedroom has a shower, wash basin and WC together with a heated towel-rail. Bathrobes, towels, and a hair drier are provided for your comfort. A single room is available (only bookable in conjunction with the double room) which has the exclusive use of similar facilities in an adjacent room.

A welcome tray is provided on your arrival, plus tea and coffee making facilities. A television allows you to keep up to date with current events, should you feel the need.

A wealth of information is provided on local walks, natural history, gardens to visit, industrial past, antiquities and the arts.

Local Attractions

Situated on the edge of St. Ives, Copper Beech is in a quiet wooded area, just off the main approach to the town. The Blue Flag beaches, Tate Gallery and amenities are only a 15 to 20 minute walk away. Equally important is the proximity to many footpaths and bridle-ways, giving stunning views over the bay towards Godrevy and the distant Trevose Head. Longer walks can be started from your accommodation or accessed by short car rides.

Known for picturesque fishing villages, spectacular coast, rugged moorland, gardens, industrial heritage and the arts, many of the attractions which draw you to West Penwith are within walking distance or a short drive away. Walks range from 20 minute strolls through our local nature reserve, to exhilarating longer rambles to moorland or coast - all revealing breath-taking scenery and a wealth of wildlife. The cultural and industrial past of St. Ives and West Penwith were cornerstones of Britain's history. Visiting some of the less frequented tracks allows you to appreciate these relics of our heritage.

We have spent many years exploring the peninsula and enjoy helping guests experience the best of the west. Our aim is to ensure your visit is filled with memories.

The region's environment has led to the establishment of many spectacular gardens with unusual and exotic plants. Rita's gardening experience and horticultural qualifications will prove helpful to those interested in visiting the gardens and may enable her to answer some of your questions.

The local artistic movement has been established since the 19th century and is now represented by the Tate St. Ives and the many art and craft galleries - most within walking distance.

St. Ives has a wealth of restaurants to meet all tastes and budgets - some no more than a few minute's walk away. No need to worry about traffic or parking!

B&B Location

Off the beaten track but easy to find ...
Copper Beech is set off the main road into St. Ives, in a quiet area on the edge of fields and woodland. You do not need to drive into the town and risk the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets and the one-way system.

Arriving by train
The main line from London or via Bristol arrives at St. Erth where guests can connect with the frequent branch line service to St. Ives. Taxis can be taken for a modest charge. We are about one mile from St. Ives train and bus station.

Travellers by coach
St. Ives bus station is served by national coaches daily. Taxis can be hired from the adjacent office.

Air travel
Newquay airport is approximately 40 miles away and is served by several airlines from London - Gatwick or Stansted. Car hire and taxis are available at the airport.

Directions for drivers
Leave the A30 after the Hayle bypass and take the A3074 to St. Ives. Proceed through Lelant village and Carbis Bay to the mini roundabout at the Tesco superstore. Carry straight on for approximately 300 yards and turn left at the Cornish Arms. Turn immediately left again into Steeple Lane. Bear left after 200 yards. A further 300 yards brings you to Copper Beech, on the right just before the bridle path.

Do drive slowly up Steeple Lane - it's very narrow with Cornish hedges!
