Children are welcome. No smoking. No pets apart from guide dogs.

There is a range of single, double, twin and one family room. Only two have ensuite facilities, although there are plenty of bathrooms. Several have access to cooking facilities and there is one small self contained flat.

Local Attractions

About Abingdon in Oxfordshire
East Saint Helen Street is the oldest part of the town which has evidence of habitation since the Stone Age and contains fine examples of domestic architecture from the 15th century onwards. Many of these buildings were commercial until the turn of the 20th century.

Framed at its end is the imposing tower and spire of St Helen’s Church. Dating back to the 10th century it was enlarged during the next few centuries as Abingdon grew and prospered. It is now wider than it is long and has a 14th century painted wooden ceiling in the lady chapel. Flanking the churchyard are three delightful almshouses, one of them 15th century, still in occupation.

Within a stone’s throw are other interesting and ancient buildings: the gracious 17th century County Hall in the centre which now houses the Museum; the Old Goal built in 1811 by Napoleonic prisoners of war; the surviving domestic buildings of the Saxon Abbey demolished by Henry VIII; the Crown and Thistle, an old coaching inn dating from 1605, now a pub and restaurant.

At the end of the street the river is crossed by the 590 year old Abingdon Bridge from where you can take a boat to Oxford. Nos 22 and 30 East Saint Helen Street offer you high quality bed and breakfast accommodation in this central, historical and attractive part of Abingdon.

B&B Location

From the A34 Northbound
Take the Abingdon exit, turning right at the roundabout onto the eastbound A415 into the town centre. In the town centre at the traffic lights you will be taken left into Stratton Way (now 2-way). After 100 yards or so turn right into Stert Street.

From the A34 Southbound
Take the North Abingdon exit, turning left at the top of the slip road onto the southbound A4183. Follow this to the town centre, turning left into Stert Street.

In Stert Street (one-way)
You will go through 2 lots of pedestrian lights. About 50 yards after the second set, there is a three-way junction (church on your left). ON THE RIGHT there are two roads immediately next to each other (the old County Hall – very tall with arches under it - is on an island between the two).

TAKE THE SECOND TURNING - in front of ‘Fat Face’on the corner and behind the County Hall – which will take you into Market Place, then immediately into East St Helen Street. (If you are not careful it is easy to be taken down the first turning into the High Street by the flow of traffic).

[If you miss the correct turning first time go round the central triangle again.]
You will pass a hairdresser and a Chinese restaurant, the Parasol, on your left. Nos 22 and 30 are half to three quarters of the way down on the left (no B&B signage). If you have a lot of baggage you can park temporarily in the drive at No 30 (through large black gates to the left of the front door), and come in through the open black side door, or on the pavement opposite No 22.

Northbound From Henley Direction on A415
If you are coming from the Henley direction go over the bridge into the town centre and take the first sharp left passing ‘Fat Face’ on the corner and you will be in East Saint Helen Street.
