Bed and Breakfast Description

Sometimes, when you see images of Cotswolds villages, you could be excused for thinking ‘those sort of places don’t really exist anymore’.

Then you discover somewhere like Blockley. The perfect, traditional Cotswold village with wisteria-covered, stone cottages, a babbling brook and the peace and quiet of another era.

Lower Brook House is in the heart of the village. We offer six bedrooms, home-cooked dinners and breakfasts, all the modern comforts you expect and a location you have to see to believe.

Because we also have experience in some of the country’s finest hotels, we do the simple things well, with the extra degree of care that comes from opening up our own home to guests.

The traditional Cotswold stone façade only hints at the warmth of welcome that awaits you at Lower Brook House. Inside this 17th century house in the heart of the beautiful village of Blockley, you’ll find a real log fire, original flagstone floors and four-poster beds.

The babbling brook and dovecote in the country cottage gardens complete the oasis of peace and tranquillity, making this the perfect getaway location, and a marvellous base from which you can enjoy everything that England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has to offer.

Lower Brook House offers six individually furnished rooms, all of which offer:

Tea and coffee making facilities
TV (some with dvd and/or satellite channels)
Complimentary mineral water
Fresh fruit
Homemade biscuits every day
Bathrobes

Beautiful views of the village and surrounding countryside from most rooms

Local Attractions

Blockley conservation area
Blockley is one of the Cotswolds’ best-kept secrets. The village is a conservation area within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The village lies sheltering in a deep valley, with Blockley Brook meandering down to the village, and through the grounds of Lower Brook House.

The brook used to provide power for no less than 12 mills (as listed in the Domesday book), several of which were silk mills in the early 19th century, after which our guest rooms are now named.

The village church, with its magnificent tower built in 1180, stands regally in view of Lower Brook House. Wonderful walks will enable you to discover Blockley’s characterful 17th and 18th Century houses and gardens, watered by the numerous natural springs.

Nearby Attractions
Many other delightful Cotswold villages such as Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stow on the Wold and The Slaughters are within easy reach of Lower Brook House.

The surrounding countryside is the Cotswolds at its very best, with rolling hills and fields enclosed by dry stone walls, elegant woodland gracing the landscape and tiny hamlets nestling snugly in the hillside.

Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle are no more than a leisurely drive away. Two of Britain’s finest spa towns - Cheltenham and Bath are close at hand.

Other local attractions include the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge or the Roman Villa at Chedworth. The area is blessed with a number of outstanding sporting attractions, including National Hunt racing at Cheltenham and some of the country’s most beautiful golf courses.

B&B Location

Blockley is just off the A44, between Moreton-in-Marsh and Broadway.

If you are travelling from Moreton:
As you leave Bourton on the Hill, Blockley is clearly signposted to the right. This road leads directly into the village. Lower Brook House is on the right hand side of the road as you enter the village, at the bottom of the Hill.

If you are travelling from Broadway:
Follow the signs for Oxford on the A44. Blockley is signposted to the left approximately three miles from Broadway. Enter the village and, at the T-junction, turn right, towards the village centre. Take the first immediate left, and at the bottom of the hill, turn right into Lower Street. Lower Brook House is on your left after about 100 yards and the car park is on your left, immediately after the house.
