Bed and Breakfast Description
|
|
Twenty Seven bed and breakfast has a landscaped private rear garden which guests are welcome to make use of.
Our two large bed and breakfast rooms are equipped with king-size beds with quality Egyptian cotton bedding, country furnishings, tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes and a flat screen TV. One room is directly adjacent to the bathroom, the other is a few steps along the corridor and has a washbasin within the room. The bathroom is shared between the two rooms, though it's fairly rare for us to let both rooms simultaneously and we'll let you know if this applies.
The large family bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom and offers a clawfoot bath, stripped pine flooring and an oversize shower with limestone tiling and a 9-inch soaker shower head. Although shared, this exceptional bathroom is all yours but for a 30-minute period in the morning, to be fitted around your needs.
Breakfast is served either in the cosy dining room with antique oak table, or in the conservatory, or the garden. We offer a continental or cooked breakfast with your choice of eggs, salmon, toast with a selection of local conserves and Frank Cooper marmalade, porridge, quality fruit juices, cafetiere coffee, tea (including fruit teas) and a fresh fruit platter. Bacon, sausages and eggs come from our village butcher, and bread from our excellent bakery. We buy all our ingredients to order for you so you have the breakfast you want, rather than being bound by what we have in.
Twenty Seven is a non-smoking house, however an ashtray and seating is provided for smokers in the garden. |

Local Attractions
|
Lavenham is England's best preserved medieval town, built on the proceeds of the wool trade in the 15th to 17th centuries. The wealth of beautiful timber-framed buildings and perfectly preserved streets is breathtaking.
Bury St Edmunds cathedral: This town is something of a secret, its outskirts belying a hugely attractive medieval central area with some notable attractions such as the cathedral, theatre, street market (Wednesdays / Saturdays) and Greene King brewery, but also a great place to while away a few hours in the independent shops and wide range of coffee shops and restaurants. Be sure to wander down some of the ancient residential streets leading off the town square.
Long Melford is a few miles from Lavenham and well worth a walk down what is billed as England's longest High Street, offering an interesting range of small shops and restaurants.
There are endless other attractions in the area, including further well-preserved villages such as Nayland, Boxford, Clare, Wethersfield, Finchingfield and Castle Hedingham. Alternatively it's just over an hour's drive to the coast so you cn easily make a day of seeing places like Southwold, Walberswick, Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Framligham, Woodbridge and Orford. We'll be happy to offer advice. |

B&B Location
|
Arriving by car from Sudbury direction: From London we recommend taking the M11/A120 or A12/A131 to Braintree, then the A131 to Sudbury and the B1071 to Lavenham. Look out for the church on the left and then The Cock pub on the right. Shortly after this you'll see the Renaissance coffee house on the right - park on the street about here. To the right of the coffee house is a driveway and path leading to our front door.
Arriving by car from Bury St Edmunds direction: If travelling from the north, turn left off the A134 onto the A131 about 7 miles south of Bury St Edmunds, then on to Lavenham. Go down the High Street passing The Swan on your left; continue straight on up the hill around a gentle bend. Shortly after this you'll see the Renaissance coffee house on the left - park on the street about here. To the right of the coffee house is a driveway and path leading to our front door.
Arriving by train: From London Liverpool Street take one of the Norwich or Ipswich trains ensuring that it stops at Marks Tey (the fast trains do not). A small connecting train meets every London train and is situated directly across the platform. Although there are buses to Lavenham they are infrequent and we suggest getting a taxi from the station - if there isn't one waiting try calling Elite (01787 881212), SJB (01787 282888 / 07773 595330), Select (01787 319700) or 121 (01787 882122). Booking ahead is wise. Alternatively we may be able to pick you up if you advise us in advance, a £6 charge applies.
Arriving by air: If arriving at a London airport make your way to Liverpool Street and catch a train (see above). From Stansted there's no simple way of getting to Lavenham, even though they are both well north of London. By train you have to travel into London. Alternatively a taxi to the door is likely to be about £80. Car hire is more practical if you're going on from Lavenham to other areas.
