Bed and Breakfast Description

Newton Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast is an historic 16th Century Grade II listed Farmhouse formerly part of the Trafalgar Estate, gifted to Lord Nelson's family. We are situated just 7 miles south of Salisbury, 12 miles from Southampton in Wiltshire and on the edge of the beautiful New Forest and Hampshire borders. The area is noted for its beautiful rolling countryside, dotted with picturesque villages where wild ponies and deer can be seen roaming freely around the forest.

At Newton Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast all our rooms are elegantly and comfortably furnished. Each room has a hospitality tray, hairdryer, trouser press, TV and ensuite bath/shower room. The Farmhouse is set in 2 ½ acres and on a summers evening you can enjoy a glass of wine by the pool.

Because of our proximity to Salisbury, Stonehenge, the New Forest, Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Wilton and many other places of interest, we are ideally placed for both business and pleasure. We are particularly popular with guests wanting to escape from London as we are only between 1½-2 hours from London. We have parking for 9 cars and can house bicycles securely for the energetic.

Breakfast is served in the conservatory between 8 and 9 am Monday-Saturday and 9-10 on Sundays. A full English breakfast, plus a selection of freshly prepared fruit, yoghurt and cereals are available together with pastries, cakes, toast and tea or coffee.

Local Attractions

Your first port of call must be Salisbury Cathedral with the highest medieval spire in Europe and housing an original copy of the Magna Carta.

The ancient monument of Stonehenge is just north of Salisbury and as we are on the edge of New Forest, you can take advantage of the wonderful walks (and pubs) where wild ponies, donkeys, deer and pigs can be seen roaming freely around the forest.

Salisbury plain to the North, dotted with picturesque villages and rivers such as the Avon and Test.

The historic Cathedral city of Winchester and the maritime city of Portsmouth with Lord Nelson's flagship 'HMS Victory' and HMS Warrior, the first ever iron clad warship are both approximately 35 minutes away.

In Portsmouth, there are also numerous maritime museums including the 'Mary Rose' museum, where Henry VIII's flagship is now housed together with 1,200 artifacts which were found following the recovery of the vessel in 1982 from the sea bed where she lay undisturbed since 1545.

The area is renowned for the many National Trust properties and gardens which are open to visitors. Other nearby attractions include Heal and Exbury gardens, Broadlands, Avebury, Longleat, Poultons Park, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Wilton House and many, many more, plus excellent fishing, walking, horse riding and golf.

There are a number of walks in the forest that we can recommend and we will provide you with directions on your arrival. We can suggest two in particular, a wooded walk at Nomansland and a heathland walk at Fritham, both of which have a pub at the end.

B&B Location

From the North: Leave Salisbury on the A36 towards Southampton. After approx 6 miles, pass through the traffic lights at the junction of the A36 with the A27 (Romsey road). Stay on the A36. After one further mile you will come to a small crossroads, marked on the map as 'NEWTON'. We are exactly at the junction, on the right hand side; look for the 'B & B' sign.

From the South: Exit the M27 at Junction 2 and join the A36 towards Salisbury & Bristol. After approximately seven miles, pass the first sign to Whiteparish (turning right). Stay on the A36. After about one more mile you will come to a Layby (Rest Area) on the left hand side. Immediately after the Layby there is a small crossroads marked on the map as 'NEWTON'. We are exactly at the junction on the left hand side; look for the 'B & B' sign.
