Local Attractions

Exmoor is famous for its stunning walks. From 20-mile hikes to casual strolls, you are guaranteed to find an interesting walk here. The coastal path runs through Lynton and Lynmouth, making it possible to plan an interesting walk of any distance from your doorstep! There are many famous short walks locally, either from Lynton or just a short drive away.

THE CLIFF RAILWAY
Funded by Sir George Newnes and built by George Marks, the water-powered Cliff Railway has been taking people between Lynton and Lynmouth since 1890. It is said to be one of the world's most spectacular railway rides. Open 10am to 7pm, and until 8pm in the high season.

EATING OUT
We have several pubs serving food, good quality bistros, a Thai restaurant, an Indian restaurant, a Mexican, and of course, a fish and chip shop. There is also a further selection of pubs and restaurants in Lynmouth. Plus several more places a short drive away!

EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK
Lynton is ideally placed to explore Exmoor National Park. Take a day or two just driving and walking around the moors. Wild moorland, spectacular cliffs, picturesque villages . . . Exford, Winsford, Withypool, Dulverton (Tarr Steps, picutred left is just outside Dulverton) all within easy reach.

B&B Location

BY CAR: From Minehead and Porlock on the A39, pass through Lynmouth, following the signs to Lynton. After the sharp (and steep) hairpin bend come up through the town, passing the Valley of Rocks Hotel and the Town Hall on your right. Southcliffe is a few hundred yards from the Town Hall, just past the Post Office, opposite Woods Antiques shop.

From Barnstaple or South Molton on the A399, take the A39 at Blackmoor Gate. Turn left at Barbrook Petrol Station, then fork left at the next junction into Lynton. Follow the signs to the town centre. Southcliffe is on your left, opposite Woods Antiques shop.
