Local Attractions
|
The Eden Project is just 5 mins away and the beach about 3 mins walk. It is an ideal base for walking, cycling or visiting Cornwall’s beautiful gardens and coastline with plenty of local shops and places to eat nearby.
Below are some ideas of places to visit when you stay with us. We have divided them into possible daily tours (based on their location and our estimate of how long it will probably take you to visit them), but these suggestions are by no means set in stone. We can provide details of directions and further information on your arrival, should you wish.
The Eden Project: a giant botanical garden for the 21st century. Visit the Humid Tropics biome and experience the sights and smells of the rainforest, or the Warm Temperate biome which takes you to South Africa and California and walks you among lemon and orange trees. Outdoors you'll find the domeless Cornish biome, where you can discover some of Cornwall's flora.
Not far away is Wheal Martyn, Cornwall's museum of the Clay Country. Take a look back in time and find out about our China Clay industry in the 1820's.
The square-rigged ships berthed at Charlestown have been used for many films, and the port itself was the location for The Eagle has Landed, The Three Musketeers, A Respectable Trade, Rebecca and many others.
Charlestown's Shipwreck and Heritage Centre commemorates the achievement of Charles Rashleigh, whose vision created a thriving port out of an obscure fishing village. See some more views of Charlestown here.
Another magical spot is The Lost Gardens of Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years which became a wilderness at the beginning of the century only to be rediscovered in the 1990's and restored to its former glory.
Just down the hill is the delightful unspoilt fishing port of Mevagissey with its trawlers unloading their catch, narrow twisting streets and little shops full of curios. |

B&B Location

Directions from Exeter or further north:
If you are coming by car from Exeter or further north, then the easiest way to get to us is to take the M5 south to Exeter, then the A30 west.
IMPORTANT: The first exit to the A30 on the M5 is the A30 East, and is labelled "A30(E)". Do not take this one. About 2 miles farther is the second exit to the A30, which will be in the direction of Okehampton and Launceston. The A30 is not a continuous main road between where these two exits go onto the A30, and if you take the first exit, you will find it difficult to get back on target without a map as you will be heading in the wrong direction, and will need to go through the town to get on the A30 going in the right direction.
Depending on speed, you will be travelling along the A30 for about 40-60 mins. Not long after the turning to Bodmin, take the exit to St Austell, along the A391, and follow it all the way to the end (which will take about 15 mins, and will end at a T-junction and a set of traffic lights). Turn left onto the A390 in the direction of St Blazey, Par and Fowey. After about 1 mile, you will come to a roundabout with the Britannia Inn on the opposite side. Turn right at the roundabout and follow the instructions detailed below.*
*Directions from the Britannia roundabout to us (for all the above)
After about 1.5 miles go under a bridge past the harbour entrance, turn right at Richards' fruit and veg shop in the direction of Fowey. After going over a level crossing, you will go onto a one-way system. Follow the one-way system along Morland Rd, then take a right (still on the one-way system) onto Eastcliffe road. When you go past the Spar shop on your left, get into the right-hand lane, as if to turn right back onto Par Green (straight on would take you to Fowey and Par Sands). When you get to the corner, which has an island on it, instead of turning right back onto Par Green (which is almost a U-turn), cross over the road straight into the driveway.
