Bed and Breakfast Description

I live at Nanscawen Manor House and invite a few paying guests to share my home with me. Nanscawen Manor House is a large country house in Cornwall, two miles from the south coast and about four miles from St Austell and with the amazing Eden Project just a mere 2 miles further up the road.

During the early days much time was spent renovating the house and gardens before we were able to open as a business, I enjoy meeting and talking to people and feel privileged to share the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful old house with them. Visitors or not there is always plenty to keep me occupied, either around the house, garden or swimming pool, all these facilities are available to enhance your stay with us.

The Rashleigh Suite
Extra large double en-suite bedroom with views of the garden to the Southwest and East. Plasma TV. Bathroom has a separate shower, bidet and 6 foot long spa bath.

The Prideaux Suite
Luxury Four Poster en-suite bedroom with views of the garden to the South. Bathroom has separate shower and a spa bath.

The Treffry Suite
Elegant six foot double en-suite bedroom (can be two single beds) with views of the garden to the South and West. The Bathroom has a shower over a long spa bath. All prices are for two people bed and breakfast.

All bedrooms overlook the South aspect of the property and enjoy a view of the garden looking towards the beautiful Luxulyan valley.

After a hard days sightseeing you are welcome to take a swim or jump into the hot tub situated alongside the pool.

If you take along a bottle of wine, and your loved one, this is a wonderful way to relax at the end of the day.

A full English breakfast is on offer or you may choose to sample some locally smoked salmon (from historic Charlestown) with scrambled egg. Fruit yoghurt, fresh fruit juices and freshly baked croissants, generously served with as much tea or coffee as you can drink.

Local Attractions

In 1791 Charles Rashleigh began to develop the port of Charlestown which prospered with the growth of the china clay industry until challenged by J T Treffry when he constructed the port of Par, they became bitter rivals. Lord Rashleigh lived at Nanscawen Manor House and out of respect for this history we have placed the Treffry and Rashleigh suites are at opposite ends of the house. One can still see the tall ships in the harbour today, and even sail in one for a day.

Lerryn is now a sleepy village divided by stepping stones across the River Lerryn. Here one can enjoy a peaceful walk through woodlands alongside the Lerryn creek and the River Fowey through Ethy woods to the idyllic setting of St Winnow Church. This is one of our most favourite walks, you can see why from the photograph which Keith took in Ethy woods this springtime. The location has often been used for films and some of the scenes from Poldark were shot here.

Golitha Falls: Here the River Fowey naturally drops and cascades through beautiful woodland in a series of falls. Down in the valley one can see evidence of the area`s past industrial history, by following the woodland walk you will see a massive wall. This was built in the 1850s to take a large water wheel that was used in the Wheal Victoria Mine. This is an extremely pretty walk full of natural beauty and interest.

Minions village is a thousand feet above sea level here one can visit the highest pub in Cornwall, the Cheeseswring Hotel. Then take a walk to the Cheesewring, a group of balancing granite rocks then on to the ancient 4000 year old Hurlers these are a series of Bronze age stone circles. Beyond the Cheesewring is an Iron Age hill fort, one can certainly have a wonderful time in this historical area of Bodmin Moor.

B&B Location
