Bed and Breakfast Description

We are situated in the heart of the beautiful and historic Harbour town of Fowey in Cornwall. The Bed and Breakfast Guest House is a traditional Harbour property dating back to the 1850's. It is very close to the centre of Fowey and is positioned opposite a large car park (hence ample 'off-road' parking) from where you can also catch the ferry to Bodinnick. Fowey Marine which is open throughout the year, is a 4 Star Rated Guest House with Visit Britain and their Quality in Tourism Scheme.

For 2007, Our Bed and Breakfast Guest House has been extensively refurbished and now has quality oak furniture, a relaxing New England colour scheme, decor and original paintings by local artists. All our rooms have digital televisions, en-suite bathrooms and tea/coffee making facilities. We offer a choice of wholesome and hearty breakfasts utilising local produce where possible. Special diets can be catered for.

We have 4 en-suite rooms available, two of which are doubles, one twin and one family room sleeping up to 4 persons. We take bookings for single people, but a supplement will be charged.

A cot is available for babies and we welcome children of all ages!

Pets are accepted by prior arrangement.

Local Attractions

The town of Fowey clings to the hill side; and is full of character with many narrow streets waiting to be explored. It is virtually pedestrian only and has many fine restaurants, bars, inns, numerous shops and harbour attractions There are also many towns and coastal villages within easy reach by foot or by car and the Bed and Breakfast Guest House is adjacent to prominent walking routes including The Saints Way and the South West Coast Path.

Other attractions include Lanhydrock House (owned by the National Trust) and numerous gardens including Tthe Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, both being only a short drive away. Ample fishing is to be had on the river and the Bed and Breakfast Guest House also has boats for hire.

The ancient and beautiful Cornish harbour of Fowey is a busy sheltered deepwater port full of pleasure craft and offering extensive facilities for the visiting yachtsman. It is of considerable antiquity and dates back to the Iron Age with many parts of the town being mediaeval in origin. The two ruined fortifications on opposite sides of the river near the entrance were built following a Spanish raid in 1380. St. Catherine's Castle, on the west bank was commissioned by Henry VIII, and was built between 1538 and 1542. The town clings to the hillside and waits for you to explore its many narrow streets, restaurants, inns and shops.

On the opposite bank to Fowey is the small town of Polruan, built on a steep hillside, and reached either by road from Polperro or by the Bodinnick ferry. South of Fowey is Readymoney Cove, where, it is said, smugglers came ashore and sold their goods on the beach for "ready money", but where now you can relax on the golden sands, as at Polridmouth. The Cornish coastal path takes you out to Polkerris via St. Catherine's Castle and Gribben Head; or follow the famous Hall Walk from Polruan to Bodinnick.
