Local Attractions

Fowey's creeks "fold about the land with many embracing arms" a quote by Carew, is a very good description of the area around and about the unspoilt town of Fowey and its harbour, the harbour itself is a never-ending source of of interest and spectacle, with one highlight being the Royal Fowey Regatta and Carnival Week taking place in August every year.
Historically the Fowey area is ancient, dating back to the Iron Age. The Romans had a port here, and many of the old parts of town are mediaeval in origin. St Catherines Castle for instance, was commissioned by Henry VIII, to ward off the marauding fleets of ships that plagued this important harbour.

Where the town ends, the interest is just beginning. Relax on the golden beaches of Readymoney Cove or Polridmouth. Take the Cornish coastal path out to Polkerris via St. Catherines Castle and Gribben Head. Follow the famous Hall Walk from Polruan to Bodinnnick, or explore Fowey's extended family of little villages, St. Veep, Golant, Lerryn and St. Winnow on both sides of the river either commuting by boat or by ferry and then walking through ancient woodland on pilgrim trails.

The deep water of the harbour offers an ideal location for sailing and motor boating, and if you don't happen to have one with you then you can hire a self drive motor boat at very reasonable rates from Steve on the Town Quay

Fishing
The fishing is very varied as the river ranges from being over 60 feet deep in some places to tidal sand and mudbanks in others. This allows many species of fish to be caught in the river, including pollack, bass, plaice and flounder amongst others, mackerel and garfish are popular summer time catches.

If an appropriate rod license is possessed one can also fish for sea trout and salmon (when in season).

Other Activities
The famed Eden Project is only a few miles away from us.
