Bed and Breakfast Description

Welcome to The Old Parsonage Bed and Breakfast. Our gracious Georgian house is on the edge of the village of Boscastle, just a five minute walk from the spectacular North Cornwall coast path and close to Boscastle harbour.

Built as a parsonage around 1800, the house has played a key role in the life of the local Cornish community. We have enjoyed creating a relaxing, comfortable and tranquil home to share with others. We very much hope that you will want to come and experience it for yourself.

All our rooms are spacious with ensuite and furnished in a style that is sensitive to both the history of the house and the tastes of modern life.

Wherever possible, we seek to work with the local community and to use locally sourced, organic and home-made produce.

The Old Parsonage has been refurbished and redecorated to provide comfortable, attractive and spacious accommodation.

Guests have the use of the elegant dining/sitting room at the front of the house together with the conservatory and garden. We also have drying facilities for wet walkers, ample secure storage for bikes, surf boards etc and on-site parking.

Our three bedrooms are spacious, with high ceilings and period features, and views over the garden to the front of the house. The ground-floor room has a wet-room with underfloor heating. The two rooms upstairs both have bath and shower ensuite.

All rooms have super king size beds (which can convert into two singles), Egyptian cotton sheets, two comfortable armchairs, flat screen television, dvd player (a varied selection of dvds is available), wifi access, bathrobes, organic toiletries, hair dryer and well stocked hospitality tray including fresh milk and home-made biscuits. Iron and ironing board are available on request.

Local Attractions

The house is nestled behind Forrabury church, just a 5 minute walk across the medieval ‘stitches’ to the spectacular North Cornwall coast path.

Discovering the beauties of this part of Cornwall has been special for us. Here are nine of our favourite places to visit. They are in order of proximity to the house.

1. Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Stitches. Literally on our doorstep, this area surrounds the church. We enjoy spending time wandering round the SSSI, observing the many different species that grow here.
2. Boscastle Harbour. An exhilarating 15 to 20 minute walk takes you down the coast path into the harbour which has a range of shops, restaurants and pubs.
3. Valency Valley. One of our favourite walks is along the valley to the romantic wooded Minster church. Valency was a favourite spot for Thomas Hardy who stayed several times in the area and met his wife Emma here.
4. Tintagel. A few miles south are the castle ruins at Tintagel. It is easy to catch a bus there and then have a lovely afternoon walk back along the coast path.
5. Trebarwith Strand. A stunning spot with its vast cliffs, dark caves and golden sand. Though we haven't tried it ourselves, we are told that the surfing here can be awesome. Swimmers and rock poolers are also well catered for.
6. Wadebridge. An attractive small town, with interesting shops and good places to eat. You can also hire a bike here and cycle to Padstow along the Camel trail (a disused railway track) and in the opposite direction to Bodmin Moor.
7. Padstow & Port Isaac. Both of these fishing ports are picturesque and enjoyable places to visit. In Padstow we find Rick Stein's Café great for coffee or lunch. We're still saving up for his famous seafood restaurant!
8. Lostwithiel. A pretty village with a number of good antique shops.
9. The Eden Project. The world-famous 'living theatre of plants' is approximately an hour's drive away.

From the M5 at Exeter, take the Okehampton exit (A30) at junction 31, and continue on this road past Launceston. Turn off at the exit marked Kennards House (A395) towards North Cornwall, Wadebridge, Camelford and Bude. Go through the village of Pipers Pool and past the Wilsey Down public house at Hallworthy. Continue on the A395 until you reach the T junction. Turn left onto the A39 towards Wadebridge. Take the right turn to Boscastle (B3314) and and drive through Slaughterbridge. At the British Cycling museum, turn right to Boscastle (B3266). When you reach Boscastle, pass the petrol station on your left, and bear left onto the B3263 towards Tintagel. If you are coming from Boscastle harbour, take the Tintagel road (B3263) across the bridge and up the steep hill. Near the top, you will see a petrol station on the opposite side of the road.
