Bed and Breakfast Description
|
|
Bondgate House is a delightful listed Georgian Town House with many original features. Close to the centre of Alnwick, it is an ideal bed and breakfast base to explore this beautiful and historic county of Northumberland – recently designated the most tranquil county in England.
Stephen, Anne and their son, Nick, offer warm and relaxing bed and breakfast in their elegant and friendly home in the heart of Alnwick.
We are one of the few centrally located guest houses in Alnwick with a private car park (for up to 8 cars), which is a real boon with all of the Alnwick attractions, shops and restaurants in easy walking distance.
We are delighted to offer:
Double, twin-bedded and family bedrooms, all en suite with shower rooms. A ground floor bedroom has extra wide access and entry ramp for those with limited mobility. A rear patio garden – a suntrap in the summer – and a developing herb garden Anne is delighted to offer aromatherapy massage to soothe away any aches or pains after a day exploring the beautiful countryside and beaches of Northumberland As a practising medical herbalist, Anne is passionate about health through herbs and nutrition. She is delighted to talk about her herb garden and the some of wonderful walks in Northumberland and around Alnwick, exploring our herbal traditions.
Bondgate House was, for much of the 20th century, a doctor’s house and was the family home of the Trevor-Ropers. During the 1970s it became a private hotel and since 2002 it has been a Guest House.
The primary aim in our rooms is your comfort – a home from home. All our bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms with cosy white bath sheets and a range of indulgent toiletries and soaps. The bedrooms all have the usual facilities such as central heating, colour TV, hairdryer and radio/alarm clock. A well-stocked hospitality tray provides tea and coffee, fresh milk, home-made biscuits or cake, and Anne’s own blend of organic herbal tea. |

Local Attractions
|
Many visitors come to Alnwick to see the increasingly popular Alnwick Garden and Castle (featured in several films, including Harry Potter), but Alnwick is also an excellent base from which to explore the unspoilt, beautiful and varied countryside of north Northumberland.
Below, you will find information and links to just some of the attractions and activities that are available in this area of north Northumberland.
IN ALNWICK Because Alnwick is a small, market town, and we are only 5 minutes walk from the historic market place, you can leave your car in our car park and see all the attractions on foot.
As well as the Alnwick Garden (just behind our house) and the Castle, there is the Bailiffgate museum, Barter Books – an enormous second-hand book shop, housed in the old railway station, and Hulne Park which contains the ruins of Hulne Priory built in 1240.
Alnwick is a delightful town to explore, with alleyways such as Pickwick Lane and Correction House Lane, and we have information available on walks both in and around Alnwick.
AROUND NORTHUMBERLAND Alnwick, with shops and a range of restaurants and pubs, is an ideal base from which to tour the sights and scenery of Northumberland. Below are just some of the places that can be visited……
Castles Northumberland has probably more castles than any other county, some in ruins and some still lived in, many in dramatic locations…. Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Chillingham, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, not to mention Alnwick castle.
Gardens Apart from the Alnwick garden, there are gardens at Cragside, Wallington Hall, Chesters Walled Garden near Chesters Roman fort, Howick Hall and at Chillingham castle.
Houses Why not combine a visit to gardens with a visit to some grand houses? There is Wallington Hall, Cragside, Paxton House and Belsay within driving distance.
Beaches The Northumberland coast has beautiful, unspoilt beaches which stretch for miles with white/golden sand. |
