Bed and Breakfast Description

So why do we believe Winder Hall has that extra special something to offer our guests? It could be our hideaway location; away from the tourist traps and well-trodden byways, or it could be the history and ambience of our Jacobean manor house with its informal family-run service.

Whatever we think it might be that makes us special, we think our guests say it better than we ever could! So why not browse through our website and get a taste for who we are, and along the way you can read what our guests discovered for themselves during their stay.... that we are a secret worth sharing!

Hidden from the house and overlooking the river meadow, our new Summer House is equipped with a Nordic sauna and intimate Jacuzzi hot tub.

Local Attractions

Nestling in the North West of the Lakes, Lorton Vale is one of Lakeland’s most peaceful valleys. Protected by the surrounding hills from nature's extremes, the valley has been cultivated since ancient times creating today's landscape of velvet pasture and mature woodland. At the foot of the valley lies the pretty market town of Cockermouth whilst the majestic Buttermere and Grasmoor Fells stand at its head. The tourist centre of Keswick and five of the National Park's lakes are within a fifteen minute drive.

B&B Location

From the M6, Junction 40, follow the A66 to Keswick (journey time approx. 20 minutes from the M6). One mile past Keswick, take the B2592 sign-posted Braithwaite and the Whinlatter Pass. The B2592 will take you into High Lorton (5 miles). Take the B5289 sign-posted Buttermere and enter Low Lorton. Winder Hall is 50 yards from The Wheatsheaf pub (journey time approx. 15 minutes from Keswick).
