Bed and Breakfast Description

A very warm welcome to the website of Tosson Tower Farm Holidays located near the village of Rothbury in Northumberland and offering traditional farmhouse B&B.

Our Northumbrian holiday accommodation is of the highest standards and provides the ideal base from which to explore the county and all its attractions - from the relaxed pace of Rothbury Village, the sights of Cragside House and Gardens and the spectacular new Alnwick Garden. Northumberland is a county with something for everyone!

We take great pride in warmly welcoming guests to our farm, which is 340 acres. The Farm carries a breeding flock of 800 ewes which lamb in march/april with texel and suffolk cross lambs. During this time there are always baby lambs to be seen and occasionally some may need to be bottle-fed. All are sold as prime lambs at local auction marts or direct to super markets from June onwards. The flock needs to be sheared (wool clipped off) in June, which again can be seen "close up" if you happen to be staying at the right time.

At Tosson Tower Farm, we've built an enviable reputation for exceptional Northumberland B&B accommodation coupled with a great welcome.

Our B&B holiday accommodation is no exception. We offer 7 double and one twin room located in the Farmhouse and at the newley developed Millrace Barn. All ensuite and appointed to the very highest standards and equiped with everything you need to make your stay in this beautiful area as comfortable as possible.

The farmhouse is a traditional Northumbrian sandstone house built around 1800. It is situated in the hamlet of Great Tosson with a spectacular outlook to the Cheviot Hills.

Millrace Barn truly offers the very best of both worlds - Exclusive and independant accommodation in this exceptional conversion of traditional farm buildings - combined with the convenience of breakfast served in the newly developed conservatory located in the farmhouse.

Local Attractions

Northumberland is often referred to as "England's last wilderness" offering miles and miles of beautiful unspoiled countryside and beaches with golden sands which stretch as far as the eye can see.

Tosson Tower makes an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions this beautiful part of the world offers. And don't forget - we are open all the year round - It's equally beautiful in the winter too!

From coast to country, history is all around you - from the mysterious "Cup & Ring" marks carved into the rocks in Iron Age times in the hills just above Tosson Tower Farm, to the highest number of castles and fortified houses in England and not forgetting the World Heritage Centre of Hadrian's Wall - once the most northern boundary of the Roman Empire.

Tosson Tower it's self is the remains of a fortified Pele Tower - a defensive structure built in medieval times to defend against the bands of raiders who patrolled the "Debatable Lands" of the borders.

Castles are dotted up and down the coastline (all open to visitors) and are well worth a trip. From Lindisfarne on Holy Island, the birthplace of Christianity in the British Isles. The romantic cliff-top ruins of Dunstanburgh. Magnificent Bamburgh with it's very own dragon legend! And not forgetting Alnwick, ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland.

Other regional attractions include Cragside House and Gardens - The first house in the world to be powered by hydro-electricity. It's hard to imagine that such a beautiful, rural location was the first place in the world to be lit by electric light!

The market town of Alnwick is just a few miles to the east. A thriving shopping area with a cinema & theatre, art galleries and a good selection of restaurants. Alnwick is also famous for The Alnwick Garden - a multi-million pound project spearheaded by the Duchess of Northumberland and with a wide range of things to see and do. It's a full day out you'll not forget!

B&B Location

Once in Rothbury, turn left (signed for Car Park) and go along Bridge Street, head over the bridge and take first immediate right -look out for the brown and white sign for Tosson Tower Farm - Drive up the hill to the T junction, turn right and take in the startling views of the hills and the River as it meanders its was to the coast. Continue for approximately 2 miles until you see the sign for Great Tosson (also one of our signs) and turn left.

The farm is on the right hand side of the road at the top of the hill - plenty of signs.

Please note that you will need your own transport to reach Tosson Tower Farm due to its rural location.
