Bed and Breakfast Description

Mik and Fedella welcome you to the Dalkeith - a beautiful stone-built Lakeland Bed & Breakfast Guest House set in the Cumbrian market town of Keswick in the heart of the Lake District National Park. The atmosphere here is of a small friendly country guest house, rather than a formal hotel. After all, Dalkeith is our home, and you are our guests!

The house is ideally situated in a quiet location only five minutes walk into the centre of town, with views towards the Skiddaw fells to the North.

It is an ideal base for exploring the Lakeland Fells - the Lake District is a delight for both serious walkers and strollers. Nearby are the lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite and the whole town is surrounded by magnificent mountains.

Mellow Borrowdale slate, traditional architecture and such a peaceful setting make the Dalkeith a perfect place to enjoy a few days away from it all.

Non-smokers will appreciate our smoke-free ambience.

Let us pamper you with our relaxing service, superb accommodation and our wonderful breakfast. This really is a special place to spend some time.

Dalkeith Guest House has seven comfortable guest bedrooms, 4 en-suite and 3 standard rooms with shared bathrooms. After a day exploring the Lakeland Fells, relax in a steaming hot shower or bath.

Each room has tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, colour television and radio alarm clock, together with central heating for those "cooler" evenings.

The four en-suite rooms have private shower, washbasin and WC. The three standard rooms have a washbasin in each room, shared bathroom with bath & shower and two WC's.

Some of our rooms have splendid views over towards the Skiddaw Fells and Latrigg to the north.

A choice of breakfasts, including a delicious traditional full English, is served every morning in our Breakfast Room between 8am and 9am. Early breakfast can be arranged if required. Just let us know in advance.

Local Attractions

Keswick is a wonderful place to be based if you wish to explore the Lake District. The town is on the shores of Derwentwater and is surrounded by majestic mountains. The walking locally is superb whatever standard you enjoy.

Several major walking routes such as the Cumbria Way and the Allerdale Ramble pass through the area, as well as cycle routes such as the Coast to Coast (C2C). Skiddaw, overlooking Keswick, at 3053 feet is the 4th highest mountain in England and the views from the top are superb.

Whether it is walking, boating, climbing, horse riding, paragliding or mountain biking, there is something for everyone in the Keswick area.

Derwentwater is popular for sailing, windurfing, canoeing, rowing and has its own Launch Service stopping at several points around the Lake.

The town itself is well known for it's excellent eating and drinking establishments (if we haven't tempted you to have dinner with us!), with a wide range of restaurants, inns, and tea shops.

Outdoor shops abound if you need that essential outdoor equipment for the fells - Keswick is the home of the famous George Fisher outdoor shop on Lake Road.

For those of you into Golf, Keswick Golf Club has an 18 hole golf course at Threlkeld Hall, just 5 miles from Keswick. Superb course surrounded by stunning scenery!

Local villages such as Threlkeld and Braithwaite offer a quiet alternative to the town itself and are within easy walking distance of Keswick.

Friar's Crag & Derwentwater

Or if you want to escape the crowds, the peaceful Caldbeck area of the Northern Fells behind Skiddaw, is only 25 minutes drive away.

There are many other attractions to enjoy too, including the Theatre By The Lake in Keswick, the Pencil Museum, Keswick Mining Museum, Derwentwater Marina and Rheged Discovery Centre (winner of the global "BA Tourism for Tomorrow Awards").

So much to do, so little time...

B&B Location

Take the A591 turn off the A66 at the eastern end of Keswick bypass. At the t-junction turn right and follow signs for the town centre.

Turn left onto Greta Street, just past Keswick Conservative Club on the left. Turn first right onto Blencathra Street and then first left onto Leonard Street. We are situated on the corner at No 1.

If all else fails, give us a call and we will guide you in!
