Bed and Breakfast Description
Tranthwaite Hall is a magnificent olde world farmhouse dated 1174 and known to be the oldest in the district with beautiful oak beams, doors and a black iron fire range. Richly furnished with lovely antiques, china and pretty en suite bedrooms. This is a working dairy and sheep farm. Watch the cows come in for milking time. All of our bedrooms are en-suite and are equipped with colour televisions and tea and coffee making facilities to ensure maximum comfort for your stay. Guests can start their day with a full traditional english breakfast, or contiental if you prefer, and can unwind after a long day in our cosy and comfortable guest lounge. Tranthwaite Hall has an idyllic setting half mile up in unspoilt country lane where lots of wildlife can be seen badgers, foxes, rabbits, deer and the heron fishing in the stream. We are in beautiful countryside situated between Kendal and Windermere.

Dual carriageway for south lakes 6 miles

Kendal A6 south
come into Kendal in one way system about quarter of a mile keep in left lane
Turn left at Traffic Lights sign posted Underbarrow
At the cross roads turn left sign posted Underbarrow (Gillingate)
3 miles from here to sign for Tranthwaite Hall
right hand side last farm house up this lane.
If you go past The Punchbowl you have gone too far

From North
Turn off the M6 at junction 39 (Shap)
Follow the A6 until you arrive in Kendal
You will come into the one way system at a pedestrian crossing and lights
Keep in the LEFT hand lane over the bridge follow the road round in the LEFT lane until you cross another bridge
After crossing the river change into the RIGHT lane
Follow this route until you come to another river bridge, turning right over it, ekeeping in the RIGHT lane
Once over the bridge, move to the LEFT lane, until you come to a crossing
Turn immediately LEFT after the lights, (Signed Underbarrow) into Gillingate
