Bed and Breakfast Description

 

An independently owned 20 bedroom metro hotel, Originally an 1870's Master-Builder's home.

The River Hotel is ideal for both
business and tourist travellers.
Most bedrooms offer a glimpse of the River Thames with boat mooring nearby.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant overlooking the river; by Osney Bridge on the 'Thames Walk'.

We do not offer lunch or dinner service as there are a variety of establishments to choose from within easy walking distance of the Hotel.

We do have a Residents' Bar – and a large lawn leading down to the river.
For that special occasion, you can order champagne on ice and flowers for your arrival.

A meeting room is available for small seminars and meetings.

Hiring a car? The nearest is 'AVIS Car Hire' opposite the hotel in Abbey Road.

No smoking
Guide dogs only to suitable rooms. Please note: there are steps and stairs into both buildings with no lift: this may not suit those with special needs.

We have a variety of bedroom layouts and sizes as reflected by the varied tariff.

All twenty bedrooms have a bathroom and are equipped with digital direct-dial telephone with alarm and computer data port, colour teletext TV, clock radio, hairdryer and hot beverage tray. Eighteen rooms are full 'en-suite' (bath, shower and toilet) including the seven bedrooms in the annexe directly opposite across the main road.

 

Oxford Attractions

 
Close to Oxford city centre, on the banks of the River Thames. Convenient for Oxford University, all attractions and facilities, and the rail and bus stations.

 

B&B Location
 
We are conveniently located for reaching the city centre on foot, or the surrounding countryside via the A34 ring road. We are only 200 metres from Oxford Main Rail Station.
Follow these directions to find your way to the River Hotel by car, on foot or from the the train station

BY CAR from the ring road: Leave the ring road (A34) on the west exit at Botley. Turn left onto Botley Road (A420). The Hotel is on the right one mile towards the City Centre as you pass the River Thames. Turn right into Mill Street after the pedestrian crossing and then directly right again. If you are using Satellite Navigation (SatNav) enter destination as Mill Street, postcode OX2 0AJ. This lane is the only access to the car park at the rear of the Hotel.
BY CAR from the city centre: Follow signs to the rail station, pass under the bridge and turn left into Mill Street and then directly right. This lane is the only access to the car park at the rear of the Hotel. Please be aware that much of the centre of Oxford is closed to traffic during the day and a congested one-way system is in use. It may be best to travel around the ring road to the Botley interchange.

ON FOOT from the city centre and bus/coach station: An easy walk towards the railway station via Park End Street or Hythe Bridge Street. Pass under the railway bridge and the hotel is 100 metres ahead on the left hand side beside the River Thames.
BY RAIL: Exit the station from Platform 1 (the main entrance / exit). Turn right and walk towards the car-park to cross the footbridge over the Botley road. Walk back under the railway bridge along Botley road towards the River Thames and the West. You will see the River Hotel on the left hand side of Botley road - about a 200 metre walk and less than 5 minutes. You do not need to use any steps when travelling this way.

Car parking is a perennial problem in Oxford - but not for our guests. We have ample on site parking at the rear of the Hotel, approached from Mill Street.
