Visit Pele Cottage Bed & Breakfast at Wingates, Northumberland for a truly memorable time in one of the most beautiful parts of England.
The original Pele Tower, which probably dates from the 16th century, was altered during the reign of Queen Victoria when additional wings were added. Recently Pele Cottage has been sympathetically modernised to provide a charming home, full of character and interest, yet with all modern conveniences.
The first floor of the Pele Tower is exclusively for the use of guests, available to rent either as a suite of rooms or just one of the bedrooms together with the sitting room and bathroom. Both the twin-bedded and double bedrooms face south. The guests’ sitting room on the north overlooks the garden and woodland. The spacious bathroom features a separate shower cubicle with power shower, a large bath, and the usual facilities.
Guests are welcome to use the gazebo to enjoy the magnificent views over open countryside towards Simonside (and the Cheviot Hills beyond) to the North-west, and towards the coast to the East.
The rooms are tastefully furnished and there is a good selection of books and magazines for you to browse. TV, Video and Stereo Radio are in the sitting room. Tea and Coffee making facilities are provided, with home-made biscuits or cake.
Both bedrooms are equipped to a high standard and have digital radio alarm clocks. The beds are made with crisp white linen and goose down duvets. Bath robes are supplied as are fluffy white bath sheets and towels, luxury toiletries and fresh flowers.
B & B for dogs - We welcome dogs (by prior arrangement) and can provide comfortable and warm accommodation for them in one of our outbuildings. All bedding and food can be provided at cost.
Drying racks are available for wet clothes and boots in the same outbuilding. |

Pele Cottage is on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, and is some 40 minutes from Newcastle Railway Station and Airport. Local attractions include castles at Alnwick, Warkworth, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh; wonderful sandy beaches, particularly at Bamburgh, Alnmouth and Druridge Bay; and the National Trust properties at Cragside, near Rothbury and Wallington near Cambo.
Northumberland is ideal for walkers and nature lovers with 400 square miles of National Park. There are several footpaths and bridle paths leading from Wingates across the surrounding farmland, giving access to longer walks for the more energetic. Beautiful Coquetdale is a short drive away and Hadrian's Wall, Lindisfarne on Holy Island, Keilder Water and Forest and the Alnwick Garden are all within easy reach. There are plenty of interesting and independent shops in Rothbury, Alnwick and Morpeth as well as a local craft centre near Wallington for those in need of retail therapy. Good golf courses abound and fishing is available on local rivers and lakes. We are happy to recommend places to visit and give advice when required. |

From the A1 take the A697 (signposted Coldstream) and travel 4 miles into the village of Longhorsley. Just after the “Shoulder of Mutton” pub turn left, signposted Netherwitton and Wingates. Follow the road for approximately 2 miles and at the end of a long straight turn right, signposted Wingates. After a further 2 miles you will enter the village of Wingates. Pele Cottage is the second house on the left.
From Rothbury take the B6342 signposted Cambo and travel 4 miles to Forestburn Gate. Turn left by the Gate Inn, cross the ford and continue up the hill. Take the first left, signposted Wingates 2 miles. Having crossed the cattle grid, take the first right, signposted Wingates. Follow the road and turn left at the T junction into Wingates. Pele Cottage is the second house on the left.
