Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Rowan Keld is a family-run bed and breakfast in the quiet Lakeland village of Portinscale near Keswick. We have a double en-suite room, recently redecorated to a high standard. The secluded house is set well back from the road and has ample private parking space, sufficient to accommodate trailered boats. Guests have use of the drying room (for the occasional wet spell!) and are welcome to explore the large, wildlife-friendly garden. Enjoy a cup of tea (or even breakfast) in the garden and see if you can add any more species to our list. The beautiful lake of Derwentwater is situated just a five minute walk from the house.

Rowan Keld is strictly non smoking.

Double bed, central heating, hospitality tray, clock radio, colour TV with teletext and a DVD player for your CDs and DVDs, the latter can be locally hired. The en-suite has a power-shower.

Cereals, fruit and a full English breakfast with free-range eggs (always) and locally sourced produce where available. A vegetarian or vegan cooked breakfast is also available.

 

Keswick Attractions

 
Portinscale is a small, quiet village, within easy walking distance of Keswick and is an ideal place for exploring the North-Western Fells. Rowan Keld is also a perfect overnight stop for walkers on the Coast to Coast or the Cumbrian Way. Enjoy a meal and a drink at any of the local pubs and restaurants. Rowan Keld is within easy walking distance of many excellent walks. It is only 20 minutes walking distance from Fawe Park, where Beatrix Potter spent a number of Summer Holidays. It is also within walking distance of Lingholm Woods which Beatrix Potter featured in her book, 'The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin'. For those venturing further afield, there are many Lake District lakes and mountains within easy reach. The Lake District is a haven for wildlife and Portinscale is close to many interesting habitats.

-Leaving Keswick on the A591
Turn left onto the A66 heading west to Cockermouth. Go past the left-hand turning to Keswick. Take the next left-hand turning signposted to Portinscale.

-Leaving Keswick on the B5289
Take the next left-hand turning signposted to Portinscale.

-In Portinscale Go 1/3 mile (1/2 km) from the A66, Rowan Keld is on the right, immediately past a white cottage called 'Fernside' and immediatley before a phone box. If you are approaching from the south you will reach a sharp left-hand bend just past the village shop. About 25yds (25m) past this bend you will see a phone box on the left. The entrance to Rowan Keld is immediately past this phone box.
