Description

Coniston Lodge is located in the beautiful Lakeland village of Coniston. The hotel is perfectly situated with excellent views of the Lakeland mountains and close to Coniston Water. Since opening in 1989, the hotel has consistently achieved the highest quality awards for both facilities and service, including the RAC "small hotel of the year" award for the Northern Region in 1993. Under the new National Grading scheme, we have continued to achieve the highest awards possible, receiving 5 Diamond status from all three of the major tourist organisations :- AA, RAC, and ETC. Plus the additional accolades of a "Gold Award" from the ETC, and the new RAC "Little Gem" award both for outstanding excellence.

There are six superior de-luxe bedrooms with full central heating all with private bathrooms having both a shower and a bath.
There are three twin rooms, and three double rooms, one with a four poster bed. All are beautifully furnished and finished with attractive accessories and each is named after a local mountain tarn.
All rooms are equipped with direct dial telephones, colour TV, radio, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and trouser press.
The cosy Dining Room and Lounge, where you can enjoy pre-and after dinner drinks overlooking the garden are furnished in a comfortable and relaxing Country Cottage style with antique accessories.
Off the road parking is provided for all guests, most undercover.
We regret there are no facilities for pets.
Choose from a selection of our home-made preserves and produce before you depart.
Non smoking.

Local Attractions

Lakeland is unrivalled for its mountain and lake scenery. It has many other attractions which will take you through wonderful countryside.

Coniston is situated in the heart of the Lake District and is a haven for walkers and climbers, with something to suite everyone, from quiet walks through woodland to long ridge walks, and the 'classic' rock climbing routes on Dow Crags. Your hosts are experienced fell walkers who will be pleased to provide you with advice and guidance.

If you feel like a less strenuous day, why not take a self drive motor boat on the Lake or cruise in Victorian splendour on the beautifully restored steam yacht 'Gondola', or the beautiful traditional lake craft run by the Coniston Launch Company both operators making scheduled visits to 'Brantwood', the home of John Ruskin, the19th century critic and social. The world famous Ravenglass and Eskdale miniature railway will take you on a delightful seven mile journey between the coast and the foot of England's highest mountains.

The Lakes are steeped in history; The Romans had a port at Ravenglass, and a fort high up on Hardknott Pass, which has now been excavated. There are a number of stately homes, castles, historical buildings and gardens within easy reach of Coniston. Other places to visit include Hilltop, Beatrix Potter's home at Sawrey (5m). Dove Cottage, Wordsworth's home at Grasmere (11m). Steam Boat Museum at Windermere (12m). Forestry Centre and Theatre in the Forest, Grisedale (7m). Brockhole Lake District Visitors Centre. The new Ruskin and Coniston Village Museum.
